According to Doc Larkins:

BRYCE Gibbs is a very good chance to play for Carlton this weekend according to sports physician Dr Peter Larkins.

Gibbs sprained his AC joint in his shoulder and immediatedly left the field but Larkins said it was a case of his club being ultra-cautious.

"You would much rather a sprined AC than the collarbone injury suffered by Sydney’s Daniel Hannebery," said Larkins.

"The Gibbs injury appeared to be a painful example of a Grade 1 AC joint. It’s an injury where the pain can be totally blocked and as such I would expect him to play.”

Sounds OK to me.

if he plays he should expect some close attention to his shoulder from the opposition

I expect him to play..(no inside info, nor am i a doctor)..but I have never seen anyone do a shoulder and their first motion is to lift it above their heads (as Gibbs did)..will he be sore? Definately...but i dont think it will keep him out..

All year we have been told players will be selected that week (Waite was initially out for 1-2 as a prime example), yet this time we have gone completely the other way, and put a line through Gibbs on Monday!!

Just on this ... I injured my shoulder after miscuing a jump on my mountain bike. First instinct was to test out its movement (which was fairly easy from the amount of adrenaline I had pumping merrily away); second was to bash it repeatedly against a tree (thinking the shoulder had popped out); third was to realise my collarbone was sticking up at right angles and stop bashing it against the tree.

My point is that it's quite possible to 'use' your shoulder in the immediate seconds after an injury, in my experience.

i've heard the club tweeted about the navy jumper but ican't find confirmation.
Anyone got anything official?

I came off a MTB and did the AC joint, not withstanding the fact that I'm nowhere near as tough as the Gibbon, it hurt like hell and there was no way I could lift my arm above shoulder height. Mine was a grade 3 from memory and took about 3 weeks to recover - I reckon he should be okay. Just a stinger.

Im with Redskin on Gibbs. I reckon its all a ruse similar to the one we got stung on with Bradshaw back in the final of 09'.

You might be right, but is there anything to be gained by playing these games?

Has it been decided yet when we will be playing if we get through to the prelim? i.e Friday night or Saturday night?

Umpires for the #afleaglesblues clash are Brent Rosebury (8), Matt Stevic (9) and Ray Chamberlain (18). Simon Meredith (21) - omitted, will be the Emergency.

You wouldnt think so. I guess they think if you can get the opposition MC thinking about something else for an hour its worth it or perhaps it takes their eye off Jamo's fitness or some other issue with another player.

Every little bit helps and keeping the fans in the dark wont mean anything late saturday night if we get a win.

Not sure if anyone else has watched the replay re: Gibbs, to me it looked as though there was some immediate swelling to the left shoulder/collarbone region. I, like every other Blues fan would love him to play, however the incident reminds me of the Tex one last year vs Cats... Let's pray that it is not a worst case scenario!!!

I'm just glad we haven't got Nicholls, McBurney or Vozzo.
