Must admit slightly surprised to hear that russ is not with those other names.

Sauce?

Nope, he was traded to Adelaide last year

I think Setanta is an absolute MUST for the rest of the year now that Waite's done.
His last 2 games have been excellent and the one thing he does consistently is make a contest and at the very least bring it to ground, which no other forward has been able to do (other than Waite). I do not recall him being outmarked in the past 2 games and our small forwards are so so much better for it. One of our greatest strengths is scoring from crumbs and stoppages inside 50. If you look at our worst games this year, they are the ones when we are consistently outmarked in our Forward 50. which no other forward other than Waite.

I agree. It seems Setanta has been told, or has learnt that he can fly for the pack marks, compete with his opponent, but keep out of the way of the amigos when their feeding.

We don't want a 6'6" giant scrapping for the same crumbs as the little fellas. The ideal situation would be for Setanta to bring it to ground, Eddie and Jeffy to collect it from the grass and either kick the goal or feed it out to Robbo, Judd, Murph or Gibbs to finish it off.

Someone needs to tell Setanta to stop playing on after a mark.

Reliable source on BF (molly1) says very unlikely Gibbs will play. Ratten's comment earlier about only taking fit players in basically rules a line through him anyway.

I watched the replay and noticed that too about Setanta. he's good at keeping his feet in a contest too, often his opponent will go to ground but he'll still be up. I still reckon we play better with him in the team to draw one of the bigger defenders away.

We'll be underdogs for sure, and the pressure will be on them, especially given our previous game against them. But a BF poster put things into perspective:
Quote:
Last time round, we went in with:
- a debutant (O'Keefe)
- a KPD playing his first and only game in two seasons (Austin)
- a guy playing his second game in a season (Houlihan)
- a ruckman who hadn't played in 6 weeks (Warnock)
- our other ruckman playing his 3rd game in a year (Kreuzer)
- an Irishman in his fourth game of footy (Tuohy)
- our best KPP playing just the one quarter (Jamison)
- our 2nd best KPD playing his 3rd game at AFL level in 3 months, up forward (Henderson)

Plus no Laidler or Duigan. It's a far different ballgame this time around. We can win this.

I agree. I think they are really good points. Gives us a fighting chance. apparently Kerr is in doubt too.

I was thinking we were well behind going in against West Coast.

But something has me a bit up and about for this game and I reckon an upset is on the cards. If the travel management is done right I reckon we could be a real show, a real go.

Carlton by 11 points.

Greg Swann on SEN said Gibbs is sore and doubts he will play but the injury isn't season ending.
Kreuzer's foot still not right, it goes numb when he runs. Doesn't sound like he'll play but I think Hampson is a better fit anyway.

The game against the Pies was a slugfest which may have left them a bit sore. But they will have had exposure to REAL finals pressure, something we didn't get. My concern is who they bashed us up last time and we didn't give a yelp and that they had a massive tackle count against the Pies, so they know how a tough game is played.

I think it will be a hard fought first half and if we've kept up or at leat no more than 12 points down we should still be able to go up a gear in the second.

Kerr, Shuey, Priddis, Masten (maybe) Selwood v Judd, Murf, Simmo, Carrots will be telling as it's probably the only real advantage we have over them.

A close result hopefully and a win to us is achievable.

Bloody hell, then stop stuffing around with him, draw a line through his season and get him right for next year. Too valuable to risk.

Gibbs will be a loss. I suspect he's one of those players who you don't fully appreciate until he's not in the team. Such a cool head out there, with excellent footskills. He'll leave a big gap. Hopefully he's right for the Prelim, and if not then for the GF against the pies.

Pretty sure that was what Swanny was saying..wouldn't expect him to play.

Yeah..if we did win... (imagine that!)..maybe...maybe Gibbs would be ready. He definitely didn't say 'season ending' but...have to admit..I thought Swanny sounded pretty flat today. Still..that could just be tiredness eh?

The club is telling lies again.

Doc Larkin's declares that it is not a sprained joint at all, but rather a sprine!! Thank heavens.

Doc Larkins wrote:

Agree with Effes, I'd favour Hampson over Carlos. Setanta had Hampsons flat hand marking technique going on the weekend and he was badly beaten in the ruck. If we play him there against Cox/NicNat, our midfield will be taken apart.

Hampson for Davies would do me.

Yes, it's as simple as that. Hampson may be tall but he's quicker than half our mids. Who would you sub? Carlos or Army depending on matchups?

He may be taller and quicker than half our midfield but he has a turning circle of the titanic.

That's very good to hear...big loss if reports are correct. Gibbs has played 112 of a possible 113 games since drafted :banghead:

I think they only kicked 9 goals in total for the game.

With Star Wars being released this week, I believe Swann and the Blues are playing their own Jedi-mind tricks re: Gibbs

I expect him to play..(no inside info, nor am i a doctor)..but I have never seen anyone do a shoulder and their first motion is to lift it above their heads (as Gibbs did)..will he be sore? Definately...but i dont think it will keep him out..

All year we have been told players will be selected that week (Waite was initially out for 1-2 as a prime example), yet this time we have gone completely the other way, and put a line through Gibbs on Monday!!

According to Doc Larkins:

Quote:
BRYCE Gibbs is a very good chance to play for Carlton this weekend according to sports physician Dr Peter Larkins.

Gibbs sprained his AC joint in his shoulder and immediatedly left the field but Larkins said it was a case of his club being ultra-cautious.

"You would much rather a sprined AC than the collarbone injury suffered by Sydney’s Daniel Hannebery," said Larkins.

"The Gibbs injury appeared to be a painful example of a Grade 1 AC joint. It’s an injury where the pain can be totally blocked and as such I would expect him to play.”

Sounds OK to me.

Figer posted that Kreuzer would not play again this year. Figer had the mail that Jamison would miss the game against St Kilda.
