I've become a bit of an Ellard fan this year. Certainly he is a scrubber talent wise, but he tackles ferociously and gives us some grunt. I think Big K is gone for the year, don't risk him. If Hammer is fit to ruck, then bring him in. He is one of the few guys in the League who might be able to match NicNas phenomonal leap and if Cox is out we should be able to wear NicNat down.

The other guy who might come under pressure is AJ. Not because he has done anything wrong - he has fought his way into the soide and performed solidly - but there is no match up. The Eagles don't seem to have small forwards. The smallest is Nicoski and he is 188. AJ might be sub or perhaps swapped for Tuohy. Perhaps Ellard might be vulnerable as if I don't think he is the player you'd want as sub.

I think we are fairly settled. If Ellard was worth bringing in this week I think he'd be worth keeping. The Eagles have a few similar players to him in Scott Selwwood and McGinnity sand we need tough nuts. Davies is almost certain to go out having been sub the last two weeks.

My changes would be Hammer for Davies and possibly Tuohy for AJ or AJ as sub.

Setanta has one of his typical 'almost' days on SUnday. Could have had 5 goals. 2 close snaps, an easy set shot a mark dropped he had his name writen over, but he was still competitive and his great strength is his balance and recovery. Doesn't lose his feet and is very quick after a contest. I think he made things a lot easier for TBird who got marking mismatches ag McVeight and Stanton at times. If we can replicate this and get TBIrd one out ag smaller opponents hoepfully he will continue his marking form.

However agree with other posters. Setanta is not a ruckman and while he can compete okay with average rucks he would struggle ag the WCE talls.

Our game was over at half time and was a bruise free second half whereas the Eagles really had to play. Hopefully some of their young guns will be feeling the pinch.

We can beat this mob. On Sunday, as great as it was, all we did was take out the trash. This week we have a real opportunity to show we are a contender and we get to do it ag last years spooners. I realise that was an aberration, but unless it was a super duper mega tank, they can't be that good.

My only change would be Hammer for Davies. Again, he's done nothing wrong but someone has to go (and Ellard/AJ deserve to stay, especially as midfield grunt is crucial against this mob). We know where their strength lies and none of our talls deserve to be dropped after the weekend. We now have a pretty versatile group of talls who can compete with their's and play different roles if the situation demands it.
Jamo - Josh
Hendo - Lynch
Laidler (fingers crossed) - Darling
206/Hammer - Cox/NicNat
Thornton - Swingman/CHF
Setanta - Swingman/Goalsquare

For what it’s worth, the forecast for Sat (as it stands now) is ‘shower or two, increasing later’.

Let's hope this turns out to be true.

That looks good to me but we still have to work out what we do with Hammer when he is not in the ruck. Will he, Carlos and tbird be overkill in the forward 50? Does having the extra tall in the 23 mean we are a runner down and costing us?

Perhaps using Walker a bit more in the midfield could resolve such a problem.

The Eagles apply great pressure so we may not be able to run it as fluent as we did yesterday. Perhaps the extra tall will come in hand inside 50 to contest the big bombs that come when under that pressure.

We just have to back Ratts and co to come up with a winning plan.

Geez Setanta would be unlucky to be dropped.

Sure, i'd feel more confident with Hammer and Warnock going up against Cox and NitNat-PaddyWhack, but Setanta battled hard on sunday and was more than serviceable. Should have had 2 goals and provided a good target up forward!

He was lucky to have 1 goal! Playing on in the goal square is the stupidest thing I've seen for a long time. He's just lucky the ball missed finger tips by millimetres. Couple that with Setantas propensity to continually do U turns when he has options to handball to and I'd suggest he is just as likely to cost us goals. His intensity is admirable but he just needs to settle down and play a team game.

I love the big fellas emotion but he's not part of our future. Hammer is more likely to offer all round value.

He's unpredictable as @#$%&!, and causes us to have near-cardiac arrest as much as joy. But what he does is contest contest contest, which not only makes him an ideal foil for Eddie & Jeff but also keeps the opposition's key defender guessing and honest. He's really the only player of this type (except for Kreuz) that we have at this time, which to me makes him a vital cog in our forward setup at least for the timebeing.

The missus just got through to ticketmaster who said our purchase was confirmed but the tickets are probably going to be around 48 hrs. I would suggest if you got a payment confirmation email after purchase you'll be sweet, don't worry be happy. If you are desperate to book flights, maybe sit on the phone with them for a bit.

Big thanks to Skadoosh for helping make this all possible. My 10-yo daughter is a blue-girl and has never seen the boys live, apart from at training a few weeks back. Gonna be sweet!

your not concerned about Lecras - because he worries the shit out of me - good match up for AJ

Setanta is going to cost us big time one day he is an accident waiting to happen - so far we have been lucky - He was composed against Hawthorn but was back to his erratic self on the weekend - He cost us at least 3-4 goals on the weekend and dam lucky that ball wasn't touched - He doesn't give it off when he should and when he has a chance to run in and have a ping he tries to pull off the pass of the century
some say he is committed after watching the display on the weekend he should be committed

Who plays on LeCras?

My theory on the matter is that LeCras is best nullified by playing someone who will hurt him the other way. Harry O'Brien showed on Saturday that he's not that great at keeping an opponent accountable, and was able to leave LeCras to be third man up against Kennedy or Cox on a few occasions.

Three options for mine:

* - Duigan. Same theory as O'Brien...you let LeCras rack up a few kicks up the ground, as long as we get that third man up against a side that will test us in the air.

* - Scotland. Similiar sized players, Scotland not that bad overhead, not that great as a one on one player, but if we get him free, do we take the gamble that we'll get more out of his drive off half back?

* - Gibbs. Similar sized player again, with a record against WCE that is arguably his best against any side. Upside is that he could perform a shut down role on him if required, or hurt him on the counter, and go into the midfield with him. Downside is given his great game on Sunday, do we cut off our nose to spite our face?

I agree.
AJ has been solid but I'm not sure there is a suitable matchup for him this week. Russell or Lucas would be a better option IMO.

If Hampson is 100% and OK to ruck he needs to come in as well - probably at the expense of O'Hailpin or Davies.
