Agree that their defence has it over our forwards but their forwards over our defence? Besides Hurley they have no stars in their forward line and from all reports hurley isnt right while our defence assuming Jamo plays is as strong as it as been for 2 months

Oh, and Bower has to play. We're absolute bare bones for talls in that team. Jamison and Henderson back, Thornton and O'hAilpin forward, with the Irish as second ruck. That's one short as it is. If one gets beaten, or injured, we're screwed.

They have no obvious match ups for Betts and Garlett. Pears and Fletch are obviously good, I am guessing Pears will play on Setanta.

Jamison is a risk worth taking and I would not be surprised to see him play fwd.

I would.

I get bringing in Bower and sending a big body forward. But why would it be the bloke who was a lock for AA FB prior to his injury, who has played half a game as a forward in his career and made rookie errors like playing-on from 15 metres out, rather than Hendo, who is actually a reasonably experienced and accomplished forward?

Always take the heart medication to the footy. Will be in bay N11 with Teddy Jnr and the missus. You always know where we are sitting when playing when the bummers as they are Teddy Jnr's favourite hate team. Can't shut him up. Took on the bummer cheer squad by himself once !!!

Yeah, entitled to opinion but interesting logic.

To parapharse him on MMM:

"Blues have the edge in midfield, but Essendon* more even across the ground. Blues have no forwards, whilst Essendon* have Hurley, whilst down back they are relying on Henderson and an injured Jamison, whilst Essendon* have Pears and Fletcher".

I agree - Jamo or not, I want Bower in the team, he is a tall who provides run and carry and has been in really good touch in the Ants. It could be a Walker like situation, comes in for a final, plays well and survives trade week as a Blue and has a ripping year the next year. The only difference being we win the final (and more) and Bower makes the AA team.

Lucky enough to just hear Sam Newman declare the Bombers as the best performed team of the year and that Hird's coaching makes the difference.

Where's the vomit emoticon?

Sam hijacked the Carlton v Saints segment last week saying the same thing.

Last time around only Hurley (gun) and Ryder (inconsistent but can be electric on a good day) really caused us any anguish up front. Crameri didn't do much but will be better this week.
Heppel didn't really get many good touches last time and his head will be swollen from all the plaudits so will probably have another quiet week.
Fletcher is a great loose back but if he cops Mitch and we play through Mitch every time Fletcher leaves him, it will cut him out of the game a bit. They will play a loose man/men down back to close up the space. If that's the case, we will have to go man on man instead of a zone attack or it will be hard to keep the footy in the F50.
Essendon* traditionally run the footy from HB down the centre corridor and we traditionally let them do it. It irritates me to see them get away with it time and again as dd St K last week. Someone has to defend the centre (Fraser Brown anybody?)
I always go into these knockout games a nervous wreck but history tells us that we should have won the forst game and we thrashed them last time around.
We win. We beat WCE on the big ground in WA and voila! We're in the prelim and from there ANYTHING can happen.

Robbo and Carrazzo are certain starters for mine.
Don't think we need the extra height of Bower unless we're doubtful about Jamo's fitness. So I think he misses.
I think the other starter will be Tuohy.
Bit of a raffle for the sub - I'd use Lucas cos I think he has the capacity to be more damaging than the others.
So all up the changes would be:
Ins: Jamison, Carrazzo, Thornton
Outs: Kreuzer, Davies, Russell

Good post. I'd probably use Tuohy as the sub. Lucas might not be the best user of the ball but he's going to work his arse off for 4 quarters and keep running and spreading etc.

Can really build a strong case for both sides to win this match which is what makes many fans so nervous. Confident we will get the job done but just wish we could bounce the ball already.

News travels slowly to Mehico, apparently.

Crameri is out for the season. Hopefully that just means this week.

I'd play Bower and Henderson in defence and Jamo up forward. Unfortunately Carlos will be needed in the ruck and Warnock wont cut it as our tall forward option when Carlos is relieving him.
Most importantly, our forwards need to dictate where Fletcher plays and to drag him away from being 3rd man up.

We need to capitalise on our forward entries (because the Bombers concede plenty) and most importantly, we need to convert with goals not points. Scoreboard pressure is what's required.
If we can win the stoppages, get clean ball in there without Eseendon having the opportunity to get numbers back, it's our game to take.

Davies, Tuohey and Ellard to miss for mine and I'd make Thornton the sub. Usually I'd have a runner but we may need a tall back-up. Playing him from the start = too tall a line up.
If it's wet, replace Thornton or Bower with Ellard.
