The weather report varies a bit..but I think 15 degrees and showers is the general vibe.

"Good" umpires if you can have them....no McBurney, Nicholls, Chamberlain.

And no Primavozzo thank God.

Loves paying the soft frees at critical moments. And Essendon* have a few who love playing for the soft frees at critical moments.

Worried like everyone else about not taking two legitimate ruckmen into an MCG final especially against Hille Bellchambers and Ryder. Hampson can't be fit surely otherwise he must have been an automatic in. 

Bench listed as: Bower, Carrazzo, Ellard, Robinson, Lucas, Davies, Tuohy

Robbo and Carrazzo are certain starters for mine.
Don't think we need the extra height of Bower unless we're doubtful about Jamo's fitness. So I think he misses.
I think the other starter will be Tuohy.
Bit of a raffle for the sub - I'd use Lucas cos I think he has the capacity to be more damaging than the others.
So all up the changes would be:
Ins: Jamison, Carrazzo, Thornton
Outs: Kreuzer, Davies, Russell

Bower could play allowing one of T Bird or Jamo to play forward.

Or Jamo plays and Tbird goes forward and Bower misses.

Our run and our fitness being finely tuned for this game is what will get these scumbags.

All eyes on Hurley and Fletcher. Bit of a hail mary by the Dons if either play.

With Kreuzer down, Thornton plays. Davies, Bower & Ellard should be the other three to miss.

Hampson had only played 5 out of 8 quarters in the VFL prior to missing a week with an ankle, so they've played it safe with him with an eye to beyond this final. I know that sounds sketchy, but if we utilise Henderson & Setanta at stoppages, with Thornton rotating into defence, we can get away with it. Neither are much chop at the centre bounce, but both have shown improvement in their 1-on-1 work, and that has translated into how they pinch hit around the ground.

The other slim possibility is bringing in Bower help with us getting stretched in defence as per the last clash, however we smashed them well and truly despite leaking a few marks in their 50. Step up our confidence in moving the ball forward of centre, be bold instead of just scrambling it to a contest, and we should be off to WA next week.

Not sure who misses for Bower in that scenario... you could make a case for anyone of Lucas, Carrazzo, Mitch or Tuohy.

If we go for the first scenario, the onus is really going to be on Walker & Thornton to create a lot of space in the forward 50 and stretch the zone when Warnock's on the bench.

Us by about 5 goals.

Thornton's been named in the 18, so he will play. The 4 interchange players come from the 7 on the bench.

I made this mistake early on in the season. Sub doesn't necessarily come from the bench.

I'd be looking at Tuohy or Armfield depending on match ups.

How refreshing is it that we just named Kreuzer as out and not late change?

Our defense is strengthened this week with Jamo and looks as good as it has for weeks with Hendo in good form.

Our forward line is a mess with no key target. I would suggest that Setanta will be asked to not only play in the ruck for 20% but spend 70% of the game up forward, not much rest. That leaves a huge task for Warnock. Can he stand up?

Ess might bring in Belchambers and play 3 rucks which I hope they do because they will be too top heavy again. We may be worried about our lack of key position players up forward but they should be worried about our mobility and unpredictability.

Suddenly Nervous seeing that side.

Not going in with a second ruck is a huge gamble in my opinion.

Taking Setanta from the forward line to ruck in the second half last week made us rudderless.

I'm sure the MC have a plan, but after being as certain as anything, confidence just wanes a little

We still have enough good players all over the ground to get the game played in our half.

From there we can manufacture goals from forward half stoppages and forcing the bombers to turn it over.

A little bit of rain would be handy. Getting outmarked all over the ground is the only thing that can stuff us up. Rain should put an end to that.

Any chance of Kreuzer as a late inclusion?

Kick outs.

Do not kick it long to the Ess talls and if you have to go long, go to the boundary.

Run run run

Sunday afternoon
Carlton versus Essendon*, MCG 2.40pm
This is shaping as the biggest final in terms of crowd numbers and also the most likely to get frequent showers. A cold front looks like crossing Victoria during the day on Sunday, bringing a renewed burst of showers and cold weather. The temperature will struggle to reach the forecast top of 15, while fairly brisk south-west winds will continue. Showers will be most likely early in the game before an easing trend late in the day.
