I was under the impression you could. Ring the club to confirm.

Ditto!
The great northern is my new 'local'. It's a great Carlton pub!

(gotta love that "Taxi" on tap too!)

A few years back, one of the Board members wanted to have a regular thing at the club when we played interstate...you know - massive screen, hot dogs, drinks, tables of 10 type arrangement....his suggestion was rebuked at board level - never to be raised again.

Some things are just far too difficult to organize.

Hot dogs!

Where would they get the rolls for a start?

And you'd end up with some of those pesky supporters hanging around the club.

I know teh ground's facilities have been upgraded but do they have an area where a screen can be put up and teh game watched from - I'm not sure if they do. I have watched games from there previosuly when they had a social club, but thats now long gone

I'm not including the players training facilities as I dont think the club would want the general public to wander through there, with food, drink, alcohol - cost of security etc. You'd hate to think damage / vandalism may occur to the players facilities whether it be intentional or accidental

Shocking idea. You'd charge $10 entrance, get about 1,000 people, sell 2,000 hot dogs at $6 a pop and lots of booze. Just not worth it for only $50K and a bunch of happy members.

Terrible idea.

What about if they got past players like Dominator, Buckley, Mckay and did a lunch with panel for $30/head followed by the game and a roundup discussion. The longer people are there, the more beer you'll sell.

Just horrible.

Put down some of that stuff that they use for concerts that protects the turf (You can hire it these days)....have seen them do similar stuff at Kardinia Park...works well...albeit the Cats made if free admission...but made a shitload of $ off of the beer sales.

If hot dogs are too hard (you have to co-ordinate the buns AND the rolls) they could just do pies. Or, I dunno, use the cafe they already have there and create another revenue stream for that business.

You could easily make it a dry event, and encourage families to come along. You make plenty of money on lattes.

Re the technology, a 2 grand projector and a white wall is all you need.

If you tie-in the cafe, I reckon you make it revenue neutral at the very worst. But you're creating another reason for people to sign up to the club, for kids to be engaged with the club, and for members to get value even when we're not playing in Victoria.

It's such an easy and obvious thing to manage, it's just mind boggling that the club can't or won't do it.

Given the likelihood that the boys will be playing at Etihad in week 1 of the finals, you'd think there would many a disgruntled supporter/member that might enjoy the chance to congregate with a few thousand others to watch the game together and in turn to put some more money into the club's coffers.

In the whole scheme of things - there are a lot more things taking precedence. However Carlton has one of the worst marketing departments in the entire league. I'm personally to the point where I will spend zero dollars on the club in 2012.

A real opportunity there for a business savvy person to run these sorts of events for all the melbourne based AFL clubs.

Go to each club with a financial proposal, the clubs do not have to worry about the logistics of the event and have a source of revenue and goodwill.

At the same time a business opportunity for someone with the skills to organise events like this.

I dunno...
I've always found the club to be very inclusive when they ring up to sell the $200 raffle tickets.
