So what do you think is the plan KK
Can understand some of the omissions
But Tuohy out
Twomey's form has been ok but not worthy of a promotion
Watson played his best game last week but he has been crap before and it was a forward line nightmare at Sandy with the cross wind .
feel sorry for Austin one game where he was moved around a lot not a lot of help from our midfield not totally disgraced then dropped. Seriously why is he on the list as far as the MC is concerned.

Obviously we have a plan for tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing what it is.

I would have like to see Touhy in but it looks like they are putting player development first. They have given him 3 games then sent him back to work on a few things. Those things are probably things we would never notice as we are not AFL coaches.
I reckon they will bring him back in fresh and a better player as we approach the finals.

On one hand you say Watson was crap in the reserves for weeks so you cant see why he was picked ( i agree and i dont like the extra tall in anyway) but on the other hand you want Austin in who has been equally as poor in the reserves.

I dont think we will win tomorrow. Our only hope is to completely smash them in the midfield and hope a small fast forward line causes trouble for the taller collingwood defense.

I prefer to look at the rest of the season as a game in itself. We need to get 12pts, get the team (28 players) fresh, fit and inform by round one of the finals. I think the changes made this week are a step towards that goal.

The one thing I liked out of the Bulldogs game was seeing Garlett and Walker having spells in the midfield. Their impact during the times they were put there was immediate. Walker has a massive engine and needs to be taken advantage of, this is being wasted playing solely as a forward, and using Garlett as an outside mid would help get the ball out from stoppages, he's just too quick. Warnock needs to punch the ball CLEAR of stoppages, I mean, look at what Cox or Sandilands do, they punch the ball during hitouts almost to the half forward line sometimes, whereas Warnock and his limp wristed, ill directed palm offs do nobody any favours.

Just get the ball out of congestion and let our superior speed take control of the game.

Some interesting points there!

i've got a really dumb question here. How do teams at the start of the game work out their match ups?

Someone here said "Gibbs to go to Shaw".

So what if Ratts says, ok Bryce, you take on Shaw. BUt what happens if Malthouse wants Shaw to take on Judd?

Or another hypothetical, Ratts wants Judd to play on Pendlebury but Malthouse has told Pendlebury to play on Murphy?

How do they work it out?

Sorry for the dumb question, i've never really played (except once on the MCG for the little leagues).

They are good points. I think the philosophy we have with ruck and clearances is a bit different because we have such a gun inside player in Judd. The stats probably show that palming the ball in tight to somewhere where judd can spill the ball to our favour with four guys on his back is more effective than the 50/50 risk of belting the ball out of the bubble straight out of the ruck.
I reckon we play the percentages. The idea being to keep the ball in the bubble until it comes out on our terms. If they get it out put heat on it robbing them of fluency and pretecting our defence.
Our clearance stats are pretty good. We have only really been beaten in that dept against WC and probably because they used the tactic you decribed. They opened things up by hitting the ball where we didnt want it - outside the bubble.

Thats how i see it anyway.

This is the point where you usually see 4 players running around each other in a circle, trying to stand next to each other. One of the great joys of the first bounce.

Gutted that Armfield didn't get a game so he could play with Yarran, Ellard, Garlett and Twomey. :banghead:

Probably should become a police matter. I'm all for freedom of speech, but not when it contains threats like this. Footy forums can be great places, but not when they contain posts of this nature.

A little off topic, but same teams.

Does anyone remember what match it was when The mighty blues overran the filth in the last quarter a few years back?

I remember Huddo and his call of "Here Come The Blues!"

I wanna get the game from name-a-game lol

My 10 point plan.

1. Run the ball into the forward line.
2. Trap the ball in the forward line.
3. Win the midfield battle.
4. The whole team has to be desperate ... tackling etc (see Mitch Robinson).
5. Be agressive and run hard.
6. Tag Thomas and Pendelbury.
7. Play on at all times.
8. Double team on Cloke.
9. Keep focused.
10. Never give up ... Never surrender.

In terms of selection in the one match, what's our record for players who were recruited from the one footy factory?

I'm sure there's a Blueseum article on this.

you know what is even dumber is when people suggest that Gibbs go to Shaw when last time we played them he went to pendlebury and held him to his lowest possesion game so far this season

Johnson did pretty well against Murphy in Round 3, particularly in the second half from memory.

Gibbs did well on Pendlebury and they both sort of drew even at 20 stats or so.

The big difference in the match were the forward lines and efficiency;
- Pies had 5 from Blair
- Cloke and Dawes got on top in the second half but it was the 10 minutes in the second when the Pies got in front
- For all the angst Watson did OK I thought except at the end
- Our forward line was a mess. Hampson tried hard up front but was having one of his under the ball games; Walker had no impact; Collins was in and made a lot of errors; Thornton tried hard to be a marking target in the forward line but had to get his kicks out wide. Best bet was Jeffy in the fast break.
- The Pies defence has a lot of mobileish tallish guys and they clog space well. Im concerned that a Walker will not be able to find space and he'll need to play high to get any ball. We'll need to be very clever going inside to try to break them up. Betts will get O'Brien and that's going to be a hard game for him particularly if we try to kick to him on a one on one.

I dont think we're too far away but we need to limit Krakouer and Blair to afew goals max - AJ will be important here and perhaps Duigan (from memory people were writing him off last time)

Id play Henderson forward and get him criss-crossing the ground high & woide but perhaps they'll start Watson. I still see Hendo as a forward but get we need to give hm a block of time in defence until Jamison starts up in a months time (or so).

As usual huge reliance on Judd and hopefully Murphy can get some space. Huge reliance on Jeff but his last month has been skittish - he is panicking with the ball at times.

The worrying thing is that he is educated. The ill-educated among us, spell it 'assholes' because they don't know any better.

What do you mean "if" ?

We've been kicking over his head to one-on-one's since Fev left
:banghead:

I think Scotland will lift for this game.
Gibbs will stifle whoever comes near him.
Curnow & Ellard will help Judd keep our clearance rates up

We just need to make sure we play smart footy entering the forward 50 - play to the strengths of our small forward line.

Make them chase us!!
