The only problem I have is the recent wishy washy signals given by Swann and Kernahan that differ from their clearly stated preseason parameters. Makes them look indecisive.

Very true, it was a pretty banal comment  ...I think my point was I'm happy for the powers that be acknowledge our on-field improvement and how context (key injuries etc..) could render their previous stance too prescriptive than defend their egos by worrying about appearing wishy washy. Blind freddy could see our on-field improvement.

True, but if you listen to what they actually said at the beginning of the year, I don't ever recall them stating that Ratts had to win a final in order to be resigned.

What I heard was the goal was to improve from last year, and as they made finals last couple years, the natural next step would be to win one. The media then put 2&2 together and came up with that as the benchmark for Ratts to keep his job. If it was actually said by Sticks or Swann then I guess I'm wrong.

I'm pretty sure that the papers said the club had confirmed it.
I don't remember actually seeing or hearing it from the mouth of Sticks or Swann, but the newspapers quoted sticks & Swann as saying the expectation on Ratts is that he will win a final and nothing less is acceptable.

Herald sun story translator: "Sticks says he will immediately fire Ratts and piss on his windows if Carlton don't win a final"

There's a bit of a difference.

I don't recall the threat of dismissal.....just that they expected to win a Final as a natural progression of the side.

See this is where you continue to let yourself down with comments such as this. What do you base this on!... 'McCartney would Coach the pants off Ratts'. What wonderful hidden insight do you have of the two gents behind the scenes and within the inner sanctum of an AFL club? Or any club for that matter, that the two have been involved in, that could support such a huge suggestion?

Perhaps if McCartney was as good as you have suggested he would have got the job at Geelong after Bomber left or he would have got the job at Port.

And don't bother to go on about how Ratts got the Job because he was Sticks mate, just answer the question I have asked above

Regards Cazzesman

Was involved with Ocean Grove when he was there. Best coach I have been involved with or seen Cazzeman.

he nearly got the job at Port.
fact is if you havent played AFL you are behind the 8 ball in regards to getting a job as a senior coach. He left Geelong because he had been there 10 years and wanted a change. Bomber wanted him at Essendon*. The guy should be a senior coach at AFL level. His playing career is his hinderence.

Should it be Cazz

As for saying stupid things you can talk.
You reckon I have turned up for work with a hangover , yet if we walked past eachother in Swanston Street we wouldnt know eachother :screwy:

Yes.....and no.

Personally, I think we should be looking at top 4 and a finals win for Ratten to be absolutely safe.
2 years ago we were pipped at the post in an interstate final. 2 years down the track our early draft picks are bigger, stronger and Judd is playing exquisite footy.
If our results dont demonstrate a substantial improvement on 2 years ago, we should be asking why.

That's not a knock on Ratts. I believe he's doing a good job but we're moving out of the development stage and we should be basing our success now on finals wins.

I thought common sense was 'implied' within the original comment(s). That's the way I interpreted them at the time and thought the recent need to 'clarify' our targets was rather unnecessary tbh.

I believe from here on, Ratten's future will be linked with who his assistants will be more so than results alone.

Quantify your statement then. For all we know you have dealt with stuff all other coaches. Who else have you been involved in so we can compare and measure your bold assessment

I wonder if McCartney knows there are rabid Carlton supporters talking about him.....discussing him....arguing about him....comparing him.....lusting after him....not caring a pigs about him....
