I wouldn't get too carried away. 3 things to do. Lock down on Cooney, Gia and Bob Murphy. Use Carrots/Ellard, Russell and Houlihan accordingly. Let them worry about us after that.

Regards Cazzesman

I want them to worry about our 2nd tall up forward Cazz. Too many chop outs in the last month.

Why would you make any unforced changes to a team who won by 103 pts???????????

In Duigan
Out White

Dogs have beaten the Suns, Crows and the bad Dees in the last 3 weeks, I see us bringing them back down to Earth with a nice thud.

Cazz has been making similar points on Ellard but my counter-point is rather simple. He's getting a lot of pressure stats because he's second or third to the ball, much in same way you'd see Bentick rack up the tackles without making us a better clearance unit. If Houla wasn't fit, I'd shift him to HF to lock down a HB and cause trouble because his disposal is much cleaner these days.

But with Curnow fit to resume, Ellard is not putting up good numbers. 13 disposals, 3 clearances and 5 tackles does not cut it, and while I'd rather Curnow resume in the VFL, Ellard's output is such that a straight swap is warranted.

As for Tuohy I just see less flexibility in the use of him when compared to Jordan. They otherwise had similarly quiet games yesterday. Tuohy hasn't been pushing too far beyond HB in the last fortnight as you've noted. He is finding it difficult to work out when to attack and when to defend and this was something RR & ABNS were speaking about in their Bullants reviews. I think it's important the he goes back to the VFL and work on this, rather than have his confidence shot to pieces against a team with a bit more zip in the Dogs. Duigan's ready, so send him back with a list of things to work on.

The last one is simply like for like. I'd love to bring in the closing speed of Bower if he's right, but regardless we need a big body to chop out Barry. Duigan will come out of the game with cracked ribs and lacerations if he's the one constantly dropping in, and we need the option of a second tall forward to expose the Dogs defence. I don't think going shorter - as you've suggested in both of your selection predictions thus far - is the answer. The Dogs don't operate a small forward line like they used to.

..not sure which footy show i saw it on, but the blues best clearance quartet this season has been Warnock Judd Murphy Ellard..

I hope the boys are forced to watch their insipid showing against the Bulldogs last year as preparation this week. That along with the second Filth game last year were just embarrassing.

Griffen is the danger man for us - we must contain him!

Luckily Hall isn't match fit

We should win by 4+ goals

I'd be selecting Jordan Bannister for this one and the Chief. They always play ripper games against the Dogs

Ellard was fantastic yesterday. His defensive work and his in and under is vital in releasing Judd and Murphy. Defensive pressure is the key to modern footy. Robinson proved that yesterday!

Touhy fills a vital role and played well on King.

Out: White
In: Duigan

Houlihan needs a full game one way or another. If it's in the Ants, Curnow will come in if fit as he is another important role player.

Agree. I thought Ellard worked his arse off.
I thought Tuohy looked really good too. I love the way he moves and his understanding of the game.

I'm starting to worry about you, Tuohy's understanding of the game is his key weakness and why he won't be selected come the finals. Next year will be his time.

Don't worry about my thoughts KK. I am just saying I like the way he moves and understanding of the game.
He moves well, sells the dummy beautifully and shepherds well. He also has good disposal by hand and foot. That's the backdrop.

Whether he's better than Armfield or Joseph or whoever for the BP is just a guess.

The main thing is he or anyone else in the BP releases Duigan, Gibbs and most importantly Yarran to the HBF.

Don't worry about my position on this, yours counts as much if not more. I'm just guessing as to who fills the spot and appreciating what Tuohy has brought to the table. I think Psych likes Tuohy's game too. That's all.

Id like to see O'Keeffe get another crack in a team full of go. If fit bring him in for White.

Very confident about this game next week..the dogs have been/are ordinary. The games that they have won recently have been based on their flowing game. If we bring any sort of intensity we will bring them undone quite easily.

Other thanBoyd/Cross/Picken and Ward they have no physical presence.

Blues by plenty...48+

gotta agree with redskins. Bad Melbourne came to play, and there was no pressure at all from them. Nothing. Richmond put more pressure on us than Melbourne did against the dogs.

With not many changes possible (we are almost at full strength)

White lost to Injury and Touhy not really up to it (winning by 103 points and few disposals at least Russell got a goal). You end up with Duigan and Bower (rested in last 1/4 of reserves) in.

Eventually Jamo comes back in for Thornton (Very unlucky, but still makes wrong decisions), but don't be suprised if Thornton goes forward and Henderson back again this week (Keeps opposition wondering). Ellards work has been brilliant and he will hold Curnow, Joseph, McLean and Armfield out as he can mark and kick a goal. Houlihan has found a role, few players can do what he does when he comes on, going to half-back, wing, onball or half-forward, tall or small. Only worries are form from Yarran, Simpson, Russell, Henderson, Garlett, Betts, Waite, Walker and Warnock - level of intensity from best to worst is still far too great. This was one reason we lost to WCE.

To date technical errors lost Essendon* and Geelong games. Collingwood we lost due to 10 minute drop off in intensity, WCE beat us because middle tier players (listed above) all had off days, also outs didnt help.

Our team for the dogs. It is our setups that they should be worried about. I would focus on Cooney, Griffin, Hall, Murphy and Gia, but they must be made to play on us.

15 Laidler, Jeremy 32 Thornton, Bret 13 Yarran, Christopher

34 Duigan, Nicholas 18 Bower, Paul 29 Scotland, Heath

6 Simpson, Kade 4 Gibbs, Bryce 2 Russell, Jordan

12 Robinson, Mitch` 23 Henderson, Lachlan 38 Garlett, Jeff

19 Betts, Eddie 30 Waite, Jarrad 1 Walker, Andrew

Onballers
11 Warnock, Robert 5 Judd, Chris 3 Murphy, Marc

Bench
8 Kreuzer, Matthew
46 Ellard, David
44 Carrazzo, Andrew

Substitute
33 Houlihan, Ryan

Emergencies from:
35 Curnow, Edward (R)
and 2 others.

Duigan is a great inclusion. Agree that Henderson should be persisted with down back he has the makings of a reasonable defender and he grew with confidence as the game wore on and it's not as if we are light on for forward targets.

For all the question marks over Touhy, I actually think he deserves continued game time. He was also effective as second man coming in to spoil more than once. There was one instance where he a Richmond player was looking goal bound and the irishman layed a brilliant tackle on him. I know one sparrow doesn't make a Summer but I see more good in Touhy than bad, and his attack on the ball and the man can't be questioned.

The team has confidence, and I don't think you mess with that. So the one change seems about right if Duigs is fit.

It'll be the best game of footy for the year to go and watch.
A shootout between two fast, free-flowing teams hell bent on dominating the midfield and kicking a big score.
If I were back in Tassie I'd have the plane ticket in my pocket now. Actually, with Tiger grounded, I may not but you get the gist.

Blues to win by a fair bit in a high scoring game.

BTW, after Matthew Knights criticizing the tigers for not bothering to have a go, they still managed a bigger score against us that St Kilda did against North. And StK won. What does that tell us? For starters it tells us why nobody wants to go and watch StK or NM play and the same applies to Adelaide. Won last night against their smallest ever home crowd. And managed a low winning score to boot. I hope we never get a coach that focuses on not losing as distinct to winning big. Ratts has to get credit for the way we play and the fact we have a percentage that's worth 4 points.

We can win the flag this year. Make no mistake.

I reckon we have Geelong's measure but I watched Collingwood rip Hawthorn apart today, and they were scary good. Carlton are good, Collingwood I hate to say it would have to have an off day for us to knock them off in September.

It's possible, but gee the Filth are good at the minute :(

i sat at the G freezing my balls off and i thought hawthorn were insipid and collingwood looked far from invincible

hawks lacked any spread and stood around waiting to receive a 15 metre chip pass and allowed collingwood to have o'brien and reid run around loose for most of the day

such a shit game

i know we only played richmond (of which i also sat at the G freezing my balls off) but we looked as clean and imposing as the toothless ones

The Doggies played an attractive brand of fast paced, precision kicking, play on football to beat Melb on Friday.

The problem for the Doggies is that Melb let them.

IMO, the kudos that Clarksons been given for the Hawks accurate kicking game is unwarranted becasue it's a style that can't win against the unrelenting pressure of "the press".

The Doggies style is just as doomed.
