Austin was never going to make it, any idiot can see that. Naming him in team was first sign of defeat. Should have played Bower if it, better of two poor options

And you think we will lose next week :garthp:

You think Ratten should be congratulated for being proactive. Had he moved Hendo down back half an hr earlier maybe I would agree. Too late. Game over.

You sure you dont work for the club? Pffft.

There are worse things than losing a game at this time of year. Put it in the bank and smash them if they make it to the second round of finals.

One training session was spent soaking in the hotspas on the Peninsula.

Maybe we were just generally flat then. The sky isn't falling.

Ummmmmmm did we not draft J. Darling because we thought he was our answer up forward?

Need KP players!! Here's hoping Watson kicks on next year and we draft a tall forward!

Henderson played back in the 2nd half, not his fault. Did ok actually.
Delivery into the forward line in the 1st half was terrible and/or he was being double teamed didn't help as the sole forward. I was more disappointment in Kruezer\Warnock up forward more today and they got smashed in the ruck.
Will bounce back however, lets not get hysterical, we are better than the eagels!!!

I thought Hendo was good back in defence in the second half - lets hope the MC keep him there.

Certainly better there this week.

Hard to gauge what was wrong, but we did nothing we've been praised for so far this year.

So these major deficiencies were only exposed today right? They were always there?

So why not be proactive about it and see if we can make chicken salad out of chicken's proverbial? If it's a list issue, then there's not much we can do about it in round 14. Would make sense that if its an issue, we'd try out everyone on our list. I mean, you said Bower was soft and fragile, right? Unless I'm missing some serious White love, or you're about to top yourself by advocating we play McCarthy?

You're refusing to address my point that it is a positive that we're making these experiments and trial/error approaches now, not later in the year.

But he's been on our list for four years now, and retained at the expense of some rather unfortunate players during that time? Any idiot = the match committee, various comings and goings to the coaching staff?

We know what Bower can do. Austin is still a grey area, albeit four years on..

But there's MAJOR DEFICIENCIES, SugarBlue. MAJOR ones. HUGE! How can we cope? Riewoldt's already kicked a bag on us this year without Jamo.

I'll go you one better and I'll say Jack Riewoldt will break Fred Fanning's record and send us broke in the process, such is the nature of our backline. You've twisted my arm.

You're right. Hindsight is fantastic.

Any chance the Eagles could wear an away strip?

Only concern I have from day is Jamo's injury. Hopefully not too bad.

Don't judge one week, judge over four. Thats what the MC try and do. If we do the same next week and so on it might be time to worry.

My understanding is we are just coming off a heavy training load in preparation for September and there is a few sore players running around at the moment.

IMO this will be easily forgotten in a week or two!

Sorry, that's a cop-out and just not good enough. Not a criticism of you.

Today was an almighty wake up call for the club and supporters, myself included.

It's not that we were beaten as such, we were comprehensively beaten by an interstate team across the board - 6 goals flattered us tbh.

Our missing personnel are noted but I couldn't believe how badly our structures broke down today. That needs to be worked on if we're to stay in the top 4 let alone a chance in September.

Yeah it hurts, but I think on balance our defence needed more urgent attention after last season.
Hoping Luke Mitchell will kick on and push for a spot in 2012

I knew this was a danger game....I was really surprised with Walls comments early this week when they brought up how this would be a huge test for us and Walls replied nonchalantly "nah they'll win it...west coast in melbourne yadda yadda". I penciled it in for a danger game weeks ago and when hearing of all the changes I was fairly doubtful we would win....WC are a good team no doubt....they are one of the ones ahead of the pack along with Us, Col, Geel and Hawks.

I'm not devastated at this point.....I like how we are resting players and not risking them instead of in the past where we would push them and hold them together with tape......we are managing the list a whole lot better now.

My only big worry is how convincingly we have been beaten in the air for two weeks now, we are light on for quality talls who can take a grab.

We have no big man forwards that can take a mark. Who are our twin towers?

I don't want us to be the next doggies .

The injuries hurt us, but we showed in the 3rd that if we cranked it up we could compete.

I think what killed us was the changes, we couldn't deal with so many changes and our heads spun.
Lots of disorganisation, lots of panic, poor decisions, inability to stay calm and get through the press.

I'm thinking Duigan, Laidler, Curnow and Robbo will come straight back in next week and we'll be more settled.

For those that watched the game on TV - what's with a possible headbutting incident involving NicNat?

Houlihan or Thornton thought to be involved...

Blaming the mix of talls for this game is a bit pointless. Jamo going down so early will always throw things out of kilter, but this game was won and lost in the midfield. Most games are these days.

We looked flat from the start and didnt really get into the game in the first half. We managed to get ourselves up for 20mins in the third quarter and then fell away again.

Of course it was disappointing, but we've built our reputation over a number of weeks, its not all undone with one poor performance.
