Interesting to hear Sheed's saying we'd missed our opportunity to trade Kreuz through the mini draft & score a potential superstar in the process (O'Meara &/or Martin) along with some other Melbourne clubs, being Collingwood (Thomas) & Essendon* (Carlisle).
Would have been hard to sell if MK could have left as a free agent (loyally stuck with the Blues but a hefty contract by the title) effectively under their start up trading rules but this could have been a good move, especially if we could have also switched on a one of their 1st round draft picks as well.
..Sheeds is talkin' crapola, they targeted him as a 'expansion free-agent' type scenario.. ..not as a trade target.. ..they did offer him a long-term big money contract, when he was undergoing rehab for his knee.. ..they were hoping to get him when he fell out of contract, it was never a trade talk..
..their mini-draft kids were held onto and used to get high draft picks in return, this strategy of theirs was talked up by them at the time, and the AFL was criticised for leaving the opportunity for them to use this pathway..
..now they're struggling, their senior players aren't much chop, and the PR machine is in swing trying to blame the other clubs for them only having kids.. ..and honestly speaking, Daisy is mid-range in his career, but Krooz and Carlisle are still in their first part of their careers, and so even this BS arguement of theirs, is still mentioning young up and coming players.. ..there's no truely experienced bunch of leaders to help them out in his list of names..
