Does the debate on page 2 of this thread give good reason to not keep a lid on it?

I'm sure this thread started because I was hanging a bit of shit in PROS and CONS thread suggesting I was expecting to hear negativity about the Board, the Coach, The MC, Brock etc etc and most likely the next negative remark would be releated to how we view Carlton's chances in 2011, and we will be asked to keep a lid on it, reagardless of how well we are going as ateam.

In other words we will be told how to celebrate the success we are having. Some people just don't realise that you live to have as much fun as you can before you die.

Keeping a lid on it is what players do...and I don't think they've got a choice but do this or jeopardise their place in the team.
Keeping a lid on it is for those who can't cope with failure.

But for me, win or lose, I'm always a winner being a Carlton supporter, despite what I had to endure over the last decade.

I have no issues backing my statements at the beginning of the year that we are a good chance of making the GF and winning it let alone making the top 4. I backed Carlton $1000 to make the 8 this year too.....ka ching. Plus more on the abovementioned achievements.

Why shouldn't I be confident?
Why shouldn't I be cheering our success thus far in 2011?
Why shouldn't I be enjoying the success of the first half of 2011.
Why shouldn't I enjoy some banter with mates who barrack for other teams, like Collingwood, Essendon* and Geelong?
Why shouldn't I display the same level of confidence in my team as they provide me about their team.
That's what it's all about.

I am a LOUD and PROUD Carlton supporter. You aint heard nothing yet. And I'm loving it!!!

I know we are going to win a few flags in this decade. Probably starting this year.
But hey, if we don't, what am I going to do? Slash my wrists?
Nah, we'll be back next year, and I'll be saying we should 've won it, but we didn't...just as I did after the Sydney final.

If I just shut up, not enjoy our success whilst I can and the season ends not as expected, then by shutting up and keeping a lid on it would only mean that I lost a bit of enjoyment I could've had during the year. What's the good of that? I can't see it.

Blue Skies and Flags is what we're all about, and I know we're coming....this year.

You're not going to bring me down Mr Cloudy Day.

Great Comment - That is what being a passionate supporter is all about.

Following football is a chance to enjoy, to have a dig at your friends and in return risk them having a dig at you (I should know, my best 3 friends are Collingwood supporters)

Now is the time to let people know we are up and about, if we do not win it then it is as bondiblue says, there is always next year.

I for one are going down to my local in Shanghai each week and will be proud and excited about the Blues, that is what to me being a supporter is all about.

Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Go you Bluebaggers !!!!!

Personally while I am excited I am mindful of also being excited this time last year and then we fell in a heap.

I do think we're a different side this year though, both in terms of personnel and physical and mental maturity.

wah -uh -oh..
yeah....but..I guess the point could be to enjoy it no matter what..
if it is fleeting..at least you felt great for a few weeks right?

but..hey...we know it'll last at least a few years..so...whether its an all the way flag right now doesn't matter..we know..there will be one..and a lot of games won between now and then.

Essendon* - BEAT WEST COAST!!!!

It's almost as if ladder position has some correlation with how good a team you are.

Lose to Collingwood in a GF and Ratten would be the known as the person who captain Carlton to their 1st ever wooden spoon and who coached Carlton to their 1st loss to Collingwood in a GF since 1910 (I think).

Get rid of him, Rats should leave the country in shame.....

Nah Ratts was Captain in 2002. Bradley finished up as Captain in 2001.

Still a harsh call! Surely if Ratts loses a Grand Final to the Pies in 2011 we can say that collingwood only win one flag per century against Carlton...it all reset in 2010!

So really what you are saying bondi is what you said about understanding others point of view was just bullshit?

Is that a question or statement Dane?

I've got no idea what you are trying to say? I'm bad for being passionate about my team?

I don't know how my post changes how I feel about others point of view and how you come to that conclusion from my post baffles me. Go on read it again. I'm talking about me. Go on have a read.

My post... It's about how I am confident to get involved with a bit of banter with opposition supporters (who are my mates after all and we've been hanging shit on each other for decades, except for the last decade I haven't had much to spruik about other than the empire will strike back) and it also explains why I should not keep a lid on it.

Those who want to keep a lid on it can. Be my guest.

I'll lead with my jaw, and tell the world how good my team is. If it doesn't win the GF...big deal.

It's about passion.
It's about how proud I am about my team.
It's about my inate desire to be happy with my team's performance.

That's footy. That's what its all about imo....no need to take the fun out of it.
Hence my comment...you're not going to bring me down Mr Cloudy Day (win or lose).

Are you trying to bring me down?
I might be disappointed in the way I read your question/ statement. In that you are trying to read something in what I posted (about me) that isn't there.
But you wont bring me down just because I'm proud of my club and loud about the possibilities.

You go girl!! Love your posts, love the love.

A question: how can we inject some 'loud and proud' into the crowd into this sunday? Is it just where I was sitting or were we a bit 'eat-your-sandwiches-drink-from-your-thermos-with-your-rug-on-your-lap' sort of supporters last week, the ones down at Skilled? A bit too staid, expecting a win, talking about every player in first person. We need to "celebrate good times", be that 23rd player russell speaks about. Enjoy the moment indeed. We need some chanting, some singing....cheer squad, over to you

I am nervous..have faith..but think it will be a real test for the boys.

I did, it it looks to me like I'm having another very good day.
How couldn't I given my team is having its best year over the last decade?

I can't keep a lid on it.
Have a look at my cellar, I've opened up all the good stuff.

If it feels good, do it.

...I am a bit out of control...being just so excited about our prospects this year and the coming years.
I'm excited that the media have only great things to say about our club whereas we all know what the media circus reported on when rererring to the Blues...all non football related. Now it's all football. Enjoy.

I think a couple other posters after my post seemed to understand where I was coming from. Did they miss something to?

Perhaps you might be kind enough to guide me as to where there may be some ambiguities in my post regarding other people's feelings.
I'd appreciate that because I'm not here to make anybody's day miserable. I'm not on this planet to do that either. PM me if you prefer.
Doesn't matter if you don't respond. Maybe you're having a bit of fun too. I hope so. It's a great time to be a Carlton supporter.

Back to the theme of the thread....I agree and hope the players keep a lid on it though. It seems from reading the Age this morning they are aware of last years pitfalls when the boys got a bit ahead of themselves.

We're getting massive kudos in the media. David King said Geelong won't beat us again  .

I think we're beyond the "getting ahead of ourselves" issue. If a team is good enough and mature enough, media attention won't affect them.
