For Kouta to provide us with serviceable years until his retirement basically on one leg - points to his greatness - prior to his knee injury there was nothing he couldnt do - and the Brownlow was his in 2000.

Buckley is supremely overated - and was just the best player in a very ordinary team during the mid to late 90s - he never dominated in Carlton games which probably colours my view of him - Andrew McKay usually took very good care of Buckley.

Much the same reason why I dont rate Carey that highly as I never really saw him take Carlton apart as Silvagni generally held him very well.

As I said before only a Brownlow Medal separates Kouta from being considered in the class of Buckley, Voss & Hird.

Kouta was pretty much untouchable for a 2 year period.
He took it to another level, no one could stop him doing it at will.

When he was fit and flying in that period, he was on his way to becoming
an all time great, of that i have no doubt.

A shame injuries cruelled him in the end, but at his best was unstoppable, period.

Ricciuto was not better than Kouta.

Kouta's best was certainly better, but as a whole career, no.

Though your view is typical of many Vic based fans underrating players who play for interstate clubs.

Agree with this. Riccuito was consistent throughout, Kouta's form was brought to a screaming halt when he did his knee in consecutive years.

I think Riccuito was a fine player but not as great as Kouta, where he comes from has nothing to do with that view.
