Thinking about a 2 year deal to keep his options open for free agency. What's the go with the restricted free agency? Is it based on years of service, games played or both. This pokie income could come at the right time for us with free agency.

Murph was just on SEN and reckons the contract being done is not far off. Couple of weeks.

Sounded gutted about the loss and was big rapts for Ratts and the rest of the coaching panel.

I heard the interview too. He spoke well and mentioned his managager being away for a few weeks and he is communicating with club and when pressed for a time span mentioned a couple of weeks. He spoke well of Ratten and the coaching staff and said that Carlton was a good place to be at the moment.
He is a class player.

Why? There's still a cap, and there's no signing bonuses.

That's right.

The way you keep guys like Murphy is to, well, introduce them to financial incentives that aren't strictly sourced directly from the club.

Anyone who thinks the salary cap isn't rorted by every club that can afford to, is insane. That's why these deals often take so long to do.

But the AFL can't and won't do a thing about it. Derailing THAT particular gravy train would cause a player revolt, and they know it.

Still wish Murphy approached his contracts like Jamo does. But you love guys like Jamo because their selfless club-first attitude is so incredibly rare; pretty silly to expect everyone to adhere to Jamo's old-fashioned sensibilities.

After hearing Murph interviewed on SEN this morning, I have no doubt that he'll be signing on (not that I did before, but its good to hear him saying that an announcement isnt too far away)...

Yep hopefully everyone just shuts up about it now. He's not going anywhere. Even with reestricted free agency, we'll have the opportunity to match any offer, which with Murph will almost definitely be the case.

MOVE ON.

Yes, but being out of contract when he is a free agent will ensure the offer we match for years 3-5 will be larger than anything we could offer him now if he took a long term contract.

''Murphy said he also hoped the Blues' administration would consult the leadership group over the future of Ratten, also out of contract this year. He said the players could not be happier with Ratten, who has guided the team to five wins and a draw, and hopes he is re-signed to a long-term deal.''

Doesn't sound like someone who is leaving, or at odds with the coach.

Murph just got off 'The Couch'. The guys asked him straight off the bat if he was planning to stay a Blue. He said that his managment were in the process of finallising the contract, which he is looking to sign in the coming weeks. The quizzed him about his management pimping his wears with the other clubs. He said he left that sort of thing to management but he has expressed a will to stay at Carlton and was looking forward to getting the details done and behind him.

This is good news for us. Hopefully we come up with a deal that is good for Murph but most importantly good for the Carlton Football Club. Go Blues!!

Are you the person who sent in the anonymous sms to SEN this morning?

How can we be sure, maybe you're just trying to stay anonymous?
