Normally I wear the biggest rose colourered glasses going regarding Carlton. Can someone please explain to me, why I am grumpy about the teams performance despite the fact we are 3.5 from 5 and third on the ladder? I should be stoked but I am not. WHY??

Bluemark I feel the same and I will tell you why:

We have only beaten teams below us
We are still making the same stupid mistakes
Still don't play 4 quarters of solid Good footy
Don't have someone to take a strong mark in our forward line when we need it
Still don't have anyone to play on monster forwards
Some players have not taken the next step ie Gibbs, hampson, bower
Still don't regularly win close games
Still don't beat strong quick teams

We need to make a statement over next 4 weeks.

Should have thrashed Richmond.

GC!7 irrelevant.

Beat Crows on the stroke of midnight after dominating early.

Didn't win against scum or filth.

Didn't win against scum or filth.

Didn't win against scum or filth.

Didn't win against scum or filth.

Haven't really proven a lot to this point of the season.

 Plus we don't allow women to play for the club.

Cazzesman, if you think Hampson's 12 hitouts made him remotely useful you have rocks in your heads, He was hopeless yet again, in fcat he is a liability, when we tried resting him up foward they just run off him and got back into the game. As a forward he needs to kick goals and he didn't do that........end of story.
Ratts said Bower could have played last week so surely his fitness was passable and he would have been valuable.
Joseph did a very good tackle but bringing in Ellard and Joseph who are very similar players (ellard is much better) does not make sense when you drop a big man (Hendo) and an attcaking fwd like Collins (who has been terrible)

I would rate Waite as one of the best tall marking forwards in the competition, he is also in form. His only issue is he is not taking the marks 30 metres out directly in front. I think we are short a second big man option up forward and as you say we need a big man in our back half who can handle the power forwards. I think with these two ingredients, plus time to develop confidence and composure, we will be a power house. We are better than last year, good recruitment (Curnow etc) and some key players coming on (Yaz) have seen to that. Have patience, we will get there. Go the Blues!!!

Geelong beat hawthorn today with One big forward Pods
Hawthorn had 2 big forwards

You don't necessarily need two big forwards you need your kids to kick goals
You dnot need dual brownlow medalist missing from 15 metres

No I agree you don't necessarily need a second big forward but they are nice to have. Would you prefer Geelong's forward structure or Hawthorne's? I might be wrong but would take the Hawks in a heart beat. Fast movement from the midfield with multiple options up forward and smart skillful smalls is golden.

I guess it depends how many times those 12 got to our onballers, who then race it away from the stoppage. I'd hazzard a guess and say that is 12 more than Setanta would have gotten, but I'm just guessing.

We have been beaten by Collingwood and Geelong (Last practise match) this season so far.

Adelaide, Richmond & Gold Coast will not play finals this year.

Carlton have proven so far this year that we are still a middle of the road average footbal club.

They are the cold hard facts Cazzesman. Carlton have a chance on Friday night to prove to all its members, supporters and the football public that we have improved from last year.

It was the same players and the same game plan after 1/4 time when it should have been about 7gls to 1gl except for poor kicking. After that all the problems were player related not Coach related.

Hanging it on the players but the Coach was not the problem tonight.

I'm only up to page 2 of an 11 page thread, but the MC neeeds to take some responsibility IMO.

Well the good news you have 9 more pages to read to see the truth of the matter and come over to my dark side.

You can only beat who you play. Not our fault we got Richmond first up, then GC, and so on. We also certainly won't be the only team to lose to Collingwood this year...

I feel the same way. For me, the reason is two-fold:

1. I don't think we are playing great footy, and I still don't see great system going forward.
2. If you look at our last 17 games, we lost 8 out of our last 12 last year, with the 4 wins being against the 4 bottom teams, and this year beat Richmond and Gold Coast (bottom 4 teams), Adelaide just (Adelaide having lost 1000 games of experience and also with injuries), couldn't beat an Essendon* with 2 men down and an honourable loss to Collingwood.

The fact is that we just haven't had any decent wins now for the last 17 weeks of football...that's nearly an entire season.

We need to start beating some of the better sides, and soon. Oh, and hitting up of some leading forwards would make the natives happy I suspect :)
