Just watching gene Simmons family jewells and it suggested Gene bought the blues at some stage? They had footage of him speaking to Ian Courts and Jason Saddington. Then some footage which showed waite and simmo with some other people in a pub somewhere in Melbourne. WTF? Basically this show bagged the club and I am hoping the whole thing was a gee up? Geez now he is talking to Fev! What the hell?

This has been discussed on another thread some time back.

It has to be at least 4 yrs old?

Nonetheless, it still made my blood boil to see the brand soiled like this.

The fact that our comms dept agreed to it highlights its own ineptitude - but a topic that also has a lot of discussion on previous threads.

Collingwood is a million miles ahead of us in this area for a reason - highlighted at 7.30pm tonight.

I would love to give the marketing team the benefit of my experience dealing with a global sporting icon, but from what I have read previously that many have tried but few have listened?

Would Simmons have paid Carlton to do the episode?
Or would Carlton have thought that this 'exposure' would be a good thing, and therefore not have wanted any payment?
Or did Carlton pay Simmons to be on the show?

A piss-take from years ago, but embarrassing they let our club be the butt of the joke really - like we hadn't had enough of a kicking by then...

Sheesh you guys get antsy about anything and everything.

It was done in jest.

It wasn't about trashing the brand. I thought it was hilarious, which was the point of it all.

It was harmless fun, not a trashing of the CFC brand.

I actually thought it was pretty cool, and just a bit of fun. One thing the club aren't exactly known for is a sense of humour and fun, so it was a nice change.

I remember Gene going on TFS right after they aired Libba's "vibe" and actually defended us against the allegations, even though he probably had no idea wtf was going on. I thought that was cool

Here is my post shortly after it aired in the US. It is in the thread you are looking for.

http://musicfeeds.com.au/news/gene-simmons-says-bought-afl-team-day-dodge-aussie-taxes/

Quote:
KISS’ Gene Simmons has said that he once bought an AFL team for one day in order to pay less tax in Australia, but the club in question says that never happened.

In a recent interview, Simmons was asked about the fact that in his reality television show Gene Simmons Family Jewels, the rocker is said to have purchased the Carlton Blues Football Club, despite the fact there’s no public record of the purchase actually happening.

Here's Simmons saying it (skip to 13:40):
