With the start of the AFL season happening today - thought it would be a splendid idea to start a thread to discover how everyone happens to get to the games throughout the season. Do you use public transport, car, perhaps even walk if you live close by to the venue/s?

Also if you know of any tips or tricks involved in getting to the game efficiently and effectively - share them here. Although if you have a 'secret' car parking space that only you know about I doubt that it would be mentioned here?

Look forward to reading some replies, and Go Blues in 2011!

I prefer to drive into Melbourne for most games. At the 'G I will try and find a park on Alexandra Avenue (opposite the Westpac Centre and AAMI Park), failing that I will drive around the Botanical Gardens feverishly looking for a spare car parking space. Trick is though to get to Alexandra Ave early enough to actually get a spot!

For games at Etihad I will drive over to the Docklands and park in the Harbour Town multi-level car park, it is $5 for the entire day and is a rather short walk to get to the game. If I ever had to find somewhere to park when visiting Melbourne, this would be it.

If I'm pissing up at the match, train it is. If not, I have no issue with driving. If I told you about my 'secret' carparks, then it would no longer be a secret.

There is and underground car park on (i think...little burke..the street with Stella Maris in it anyway..and it's literally across the road from stadium.I think it is $12 on gameday/nite.

Public transport. Games after work I hop on the train and get off at Richmond/Southern X. Weekend or Saturday night games either walk then train or tram then train.

No real tips for PT. Generally at Richmond the barriers are open before and after the game so you can get away without having a valid ticket, but at Southern Cross you need a valid ticket to exit before the game (open after the game).

The old man drives and usually parks near the remand centre for Etihad games and manages to find a spot in Collingwood or East Melbourne for G games.

Drive.
If MW is heading into the city for some shopping while I take one of the kids to their 'birthday' game she'll drop us off near the ground and pick us up afterward. If it's just me and one of the kids we park opposite Fed Square and walk to the 'G, or park in one of the carparks nearby for Dome games.

The dome is a piece of piss to get to from Shepp now, and the MCG not much more difficult
When they get around to completing the Nagambie bypass it's going to be 5-10 mins quicker too.

Depending if I am running late - but catch a train from Albion to Etihad or go to Flinders St and walk along the Yarra to the MCG

If running late I will drive to Footscray and then catch a train to Etihad or go to Flinders St and walk along the Yarra to the MCG

Generally I ride my bike. No parking fees, no walking immense distances to a car park, no squeezing into trams/trains after the game, no WAITING for trains/trams after the game, just a nice leisurely ride to and from the game. Sorted.

Fly to Melbourne.
Someone takes me to the ground.
Have never used public transport.

If I ever had to get in on my own, I'd use public transport, then taxi.

I never drink anything stronger than petrol on a footy day or at the footy, so I can't see myself driving.
I have been with drivers who were caught drink driving over the limit; glad it wasn't me.

It's never mysteriously disappeared when you've walked back to where you left it after a Collingwood game?
