My best PP memory was Round 14, 1991.
I was 10, and Carlton were big under-dogs against the then undefeated West Coast Eagles.
Simon Minton-Connell kicked a goal from the boundary very late to put us 3 points up.
As the siren went, I leapt the fence, bolted into the middle and jumped onto Bear Gleason and Harry Madden.
I made it onto every news break on the TV that night.

That was a great game, but alas i missed as i used to play paddock footy on the Saturday arvo's. That day was when Darren Tarczon played his best ever game for teh Blues and destroyed Bluey McKenna with a shirtfront :thumbsup:

I've got that game on tape somewhere. Do yourself a favour and DO NOT watch it again as It might ruin it for you. Although it was a close and exciting win it wasn't exactly a great game. Was fun to watch Fotia and the likes run around though.

I recall watching this game in one of the Corporate Boxes in the then called "John Elliott Stand" (now Carlton Heroes Stand), not sure how I ended up in there.

I think we consumed a few stiff double brandies during the last quarter of that game.

Pretty sure SOS did his knee that day and missed the rest of 1991

What I'm looking/hoping from this week's game-

* No injuries or reports;
* Our good players (ie. Judd, Murphy, Gibbs, Scotland, Simmo, Betts, Waite) get their hands on the ball and show some polish;
* Yarran, Hammer, Warnock & Duguid finish off their good pre-seasons with strong games;
* Bower finds some confidence/touch;
* Forwards to show some cohesion and system;
* Hendo, Carrots, Hoops, Brock & JR all play and get through OK.

A win would just be a bonus.

One of my favourite memories of PP is seeing some excited bloke go into an "empty" toilet at the Lygon St (or cemetry) end and come back out as fast, but with soiled daks! :lol: The dunnies had a slope and were never repaired............so much for OH&S! :donk:

I think his touch is ok ABNS, but agree with you on confidence. I'd like to see if Walker plays more like his earlier form but he'll be up forward in round 1 causing havoc regardless. :thumbsup:

Dont worry about OH&S - back in 1981 I got to the ground a bit late as I used to play junior footy in the morning - so i got to the Carlton Vs Collingwood game at PP and i was lucky to get in as they closed the gates about 1pm. I couldnt see being a young lad at the time so i climbed up on the inside of the old standing shelter on the wing on the city side of the ground. So for the last qtr of the 2nds and the whole senior game i was perched up on the side of the standing room shelter watching the game, i would have been about a good 15 foot plus off the ground where i could sit on a X bar. Gee it wasnt comfortable amd we got flogged by about 10 goals and Daicos cut Bruce Doull up across HFF. No bugger worried about OH&S back then.

I left with about 10 minutes to go and started walking home to the commission flats where I used to live, i have taken a short cut through the cemetary. They shut the gates at 5pm, by the time i got to the far gateon Lygom St it was closed, so I bolted back to the gate i entered and it was locked. So i have gone back and looked for a missing picket in the fence to escape through the gap in the fence, but for a change they were all bloody intact. It was getting dark fairly quickly and spending a night in the 'cemo' didnt appeal to me, so I had to climb the fence. If you hadnt seen the 'cemo' fence before the pikes are about 2 metres high, with a nice pointy edge and to top it off bloody barbed wire entangled over it. Fair dinkum it would have been easier climbing through the Somme in No Mans Land in World War 1. So here i was, a 12 yo about to scale this fence. I threw my footy kit bag over andembarked on climbing this fence. I found a bit of timber to lean up to give me a start up, i hd to grab onto teh barbed wire and I well and truly sliced my right hand opened really well. Then perched up on the top rung I jumped down onto the footpath below and did a commando roll to break the fall. On the Lygon street side you had another metre to fall asthe inside of the 'cemo' was raised.

Anyway i hit the ground, rolled and stood up and shouted out as the landing on the ashpalt was the softest landing of all time. But what t i didnt notice was a young family walking back from the footy, I think i nearly gave the mum a heartache and the old man was going to give me a flogging as he thought I deliberately waited for them and jumped and to scare them. So here I am tired from a game of footy, bloody exhausted from hanging up like a monkey in the stand for nearly 5 quarters, flogged by the Pies, scared sh*tless of the'cemo' at night in winter, blood p#ssing out my hand and thsi b#stard about 30 yeras older than me wanted to give me a bloody flogging.!!!!!!

Anyway in his wisdom he let me go, I went home and went straight to bed. From that game on I HAVE NEVER LEFT A GAME BEFORE THE FINAL SIREN - even during the 86, 93 and 99 grand finals when we lost them I stayed to the end. I thought if I do it again and leave a game before the end, some bad sh*t is going to come my way again. :cry:

The sad part is that its a true story and I never leave before the final siren - even in games we have been flogged by over 100 points!!!

I think I remember shedding a tear...
