How long do you reckon this thread will be by the end of the season assuming Murphy hasn't signed prior?

That's the 5 names.

I would be surprised if these 5 were correct. There is no way they could fit all of these under the salary cap. GC17 only got one really big name player. Each of these 5 would have to be offered long term deals in the area of $1 million a year to entice them.

If i was a player the GC would have been tempting because it does have an established (smallish) fan base, but GWS is a Aussie rules wasteland.

Murphy may leave and that's his choice, but my view of GWS is that it will be an albatross around the AFL's neck for about a decade (and longer) unless they can merge it with a Vic club.

If the offer s not 50% more than the Carlton offer, I think he'll stay.

I don't know why anyone would want to play under Williams and Sheedy who didn't do their previous clubs any favours with their coaching and development.

McKenna and co. is a different story.

Carlton are at the start of their premiership window NOW - Murph will stay

Surely winning a premiership is every footballers biggest dream. It's not as though he's getting paid peanuts either and I'm sure he'll get a nice bump from the Blues for staying... and retire with a few mill to his name anyway..

Gazza won premierships - fair enough he chased coin...

The GREAT thing is the filth have just won a premiership - maybe that's enough for either Swan, Pendlebury or Thomas to chase the coin... And if they do and we keep Murph you would not wipe the smile off my face til the end of 2012!!

My tip though - The cats will slide to the lower end of the top 8, a heap of players will flag retirment and Jimmy B will take the money and run! He will be GWS's big marquee player next year

No one is giving Taylor Walker $1mil.

I dont think anyone really thinks they're going to sign 5 players of that calibre anyway....sorry, 4 players of that calibre and Taylor Walker.

Ablett is in one million a year territory.

Scully 400,000
Murphy 600,000
Walker 450,000
Swan 750,000
Bartel 800,000

It'd be nice if you flew the nest.

i'd be happy if that was the gws offer for murph, coz i reckon his new blues contract would be well around that ball park anyway (give or take).

I think that unless the offer was really outlandish he will stay.

Those that moved to gc had go home factor or other motivation, ablett had the big money thrown at him and had already done all he could the cats. murph is looking down the barrel of sustained success with the blues and wont be offered the same cash as ga jnr.

Those numbers above don't take into account the following:

GWS (and GC) have a higher salary cap than all other clubs for their first few years.
Their lists are primarily consisting of young kids, who are cheap for their first few seasons.
They MUST spend their salary cap.
Therefore, they can offer insanely inflated contracts to guys like Murph. And because they have to burn through their massive salary cap, they will heavily front-load these contracts for the first few seasons while the rest of their list is young.

So Ablett would be getting way more than a mill. And they'd be able to offer a guy like Murphy 800k a year easily. Scully they'd give 600k to, no problems.

You can't look at what GWS is offering as any kind of normal. That's why they're so dangerous: everyone has their price, no matter how pure their intentions.

But I just saved them $2million. If they have to spend it all, I'll take some.

..i think with the extra incentives for Gazza, all up he's well over a mil. a year.. ..crazy talk around scully is around the mil a season talk.. ..agreed they cant land too many top end talent, but if thats all they're offering the above mentioned players they wont get a single one.. ..they'll need to almost double those figures to lure talent away for purely Coin reasons..

That was exactly my point when i said that they couldnt possibly fit all the 5 mentioned players, Murphy, Bartel, Swan, Scully and Walker in the cap. They would have to offer each around the million dollar a year mark, and rumours are that Scully has been offered this amount ,to lure them away from their clubs. I would imagine Murphy would now be on about $450,000 a year and his next contract would be substationally more. After this year we no longer have to pay any of Fev's contract and this will save $100,000 (or close to it). GWS will not lure Murphy away with a contract of $600,000 as this is in the ball park of what Carlton will offer.

He's played one season of footy. That is what he is worth given Abblett has played 10, won the Browlow, best and fairests, two premierships, multi All-Australian caps and is considered the best footballer in the League.

If Scully has been offered that, since you're in the know, how much has Murphy been offered? Surely based on your figures, with his skill, experience, past performance with B&F runner up results and potential going forward he would have to be offered at least 2 million a year or more?

You shitting me?

Sheedy killed Essendon*.

Perhaps Murphy doesn't want to play for a club with ignorant supporters such as yourself who cry over Fevola or Ratten.

And gave Henderson the bronx cheers in the first half of the Hawks game.
