Friday night confirmed for me again a long-held belief we should be playing our home games at the MCG. We are a better side there where we can use our strengths of carry and run.

Discuss.

(ps. does anyone know when is the agreement up at Etihad stadium?)

I agree Tom Alvin's Wig - Our home ground should be at the G :thanks:

I also have a dream that we return to Princess Park with a 50,000 seat stadium.

it's the place the boys hang out at when they're playing too softly Doc.

We need to get away from Etihad as soon as possible. Just doing some research on our performances there since the venue opened. We have won 23 out of 70 games at the venue, a record of only 32% which is poor.

Below is the breakdown of wins and losses over the years at Etihad.

Year Won Lost
2000 1 1
2001 1 0
2002 1 7
2003 1 3
2004 2 2
2005 2 6
2006 2 8
2007 1 7
2008 3 6
2009 6 2
2010 3 5

Well T.A.W whether it's a case of "great minds think alike" or "fools never differ" I don't know, but I was thinking last night of starting a thread on precisely this topic.

We don't have a good record there. It's not conducive to player welfare. The question is though how much would it cost us to move? Jeannie, you know it's what Dick would've wanted.
Very envious of the filth getting their last seven games there - as if they don't already get enough advantages.

Agreed.

But I'm not so worried about style of play.

I also believe it has better implications for membership as it's in the best part of town, its easier to get to and I consider the G's iconic status as a plus. I think its worth 5000 extra members.

Etihad is an ice box with no character, a shit surface and no status in the sporting world.

Run our win-loss record at all grounds over that period. I think you'll find it's not much better.

The G is simply a better venue.

We need a home stadium, with the best possible playing conditions for the Club's own self-interest.

Just look at Geelong. They can effectively "lock in" all home games as wins at their home ground.

The G is better for the players, the supporters and the coffers.

Do it now.

^^ I was thinking the same thing. That breakdown also includes away games.

I don't mind playing at Docklands, especially against interstate teams. 30k looks and feels better at the smaller venue.

A mcg (7) - etihad (4) split would be better though... and always play the likes of Whorethorn at the G.

I thought we played alright there last year, but we had Fev then, so our style of play may have changed since.

Yes and the w/l ratio confirms that. Interesting.

when we were forced to take docklands as our part 'home' ground we were on our knees with few friends.

Let's make sure our Club is strong in membership; developing successfully on the field and financially secure ... then we go to the AFL and demand a renegotiation ... no doubt AD would be in favour of that as he's a master of that.

once we pay back our $1M loan to the AFL, we could just about start shaking the tree on this matter .... MCG or nothing !

also let's make sure we can have the same home and away reserve seats as Collingwood, while we are at it.

Yep, the Docklands deal was definitely a pragmatic option that we really had no other option but to take. We were railroaded by the AFL and Collo's cash temptation.

Mind, if they fixed the @#$%&! turf up at Etihad it mightn't be so bad.

You were kinda right. At the MCG our record is 36 from 85 which is 42%, so slightly better.

We just seem to play much better football at MCG, im not sure what it is. Even now we still struggle at Etihad.

MCG stats below anyway...

Year Wins Loss
2000 5 5
2001 6 4
2002 2 4
2003 2 4
2004 3 3
2005 2 6
2006 1 6
2007 3 5
2008 4 5
2009 4 4
2010 4 3
