Bring back Waite

Fast ball movement to break the zone.

I find footy games involving Saints very boring; last night no exception.

I look forward to watching Carlton take the next step from last years game.
Houla shoul've put us in front with 2 mins left on the clock last year; they got out of gaol.

I wish Tex was available.

Agree with everything except bringing back Waite. Not worth risking yet, until he has full confidence and strenghtens the leg.

White had a good game, especially given it was his 3rd game.
He is showing promising signs and can play back and forward, so i'd keep blooding him.
McLean has to be dropped. Hadley is playing well. Statistically, we have a great winning ratio when Hadley and Judd play, so i'd be bringing him into the side.
I'd give Hendo one more game, as he showed a bit in the second half last week. Otherwise he goes to the Ants.
Waite still needs to build strength, as he has knee history and if he goes down again, it could be retirement.
Thorton needs to get hungrier. another week or two in the Ants will make him an aggressive player (like he used to be in his earlier years).

Browne played his best game against the Saints. That was it. One game.

So, lets pick him now that he's set the VFL on fire with his pinpoint accuracy by foot and hand.

Not for me. I hope I'm wrong. His fans from last year have dropped off this year, and now we have a new brigade of Browne supporters.

He needs to improve many parts of his game. His hardness at the man and ball are not his weakness.

I was a fan, but I'm not anymore.

If it was 2005 he's be one of the first selected along with Wiggins, G.Bower and Beaumont....mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Ummm, you're supposed to paint the quarter panels with it .....not snort it...

He was clearly beaten by Dawes...

After reading that i think

INS : Waite, Thornton and Robbo
OUTS: Hendo, White and Garlett

Its a real shame if Garlett is axed and McLean isn't

He should not be playing if he is unfit and i hope to god that he isn't playing so they can justify giving a first round pick away for him.

Agree on Garlett, but he did go missing against a more physical team that could actually run in the Pies. Against the Saints he may struggle again. Not that I think Robinson will perform much better, just that he will take a few out with him.

Personally I'm more inclined to introduce Browne or Wiggins up forward than bring Robbo in.

WHY THE !@#$%& BROWNE. He has done nothing at all since being on the Carlton list. his composure is terrible, his skills are diabolical and he has no hurt factor at all. Robinson offers so much more than himn even with his flaws.

Why also does Thornton come straight back after playing one decent game in the 2's make him play another. I do believ Waite needs to come back because on the weekend it showed we were undersized. Jeez even that useless bloke DAWES had an impact.

Can someone tell me where AUSTIN is at?

Browne is in the mix because we have some youth, some players returning from injury in the VFL and so our selection pools are limited when it comes to smalls, which is also why Wiggins comes into the mix.

If we feel Garlett cannot stand up to the physical pressure and we want to maintain our forward structure, it's a good selection. People talk about how some players come into the game better down back because they get to follow a man rather than make the play, and the play unfolds before them. I'd argue the forward pocket and half-forward is becoming a position that can also introduce players into the game a bit better, because they can dictate what their opponent does, and can attack the contest without too much fear of a turnover causing much damage at the other end of the ground.

Browne ticks a lot of boxes to play at an AFL standard (his pre-season was at a high level save for disposal, which has previously been a strength), but he needs confidence; something Ratten is hell-bent on instilling in younger types. If it came down to a choice between Browne, Wiggins & Robbo up forward to replace Garlett, I choose Browne.

As for Thornton, the reports coming in after a game where he got swung around and was personally frustrated, he followed up with a good game in defence where he took the game on in possession and got amongst it physically: exactly what he was instructed to do. He's not a kid, so when the attitude adjustment happens consistently in a match, you immediately put him up for consideration. Personally I think White's work 1-on-1 has lacked the physicality he was billed for, so much so he needs to go back to the VFL and work on his technique in that respect (which is a bit different from Thornton's issues).

Blues Clues wrote:
Jimmae, Garlett great v Cats, so he can't be played against physical teams??

My original wording is at the top of this post: I stated a team as physical and fast as the Pies; not just physical. If our blokes are missing blocks and shepherds through no fault of their own (which isn't always the case), Garlett will get bumped, scragged and worn down. That's what happened against the Pies.

If the MC think he can respond this week, great. I think he's definitely fitter and stronger than last year, but I think it's still not enough for consistent output at AFL level, and we saw that last weekend. 12 months ago I was suggesting we get him on a program to develop him physically at the expense of VFL matches. I think we're seeing a bit of that with this year's brigade of youngsters, most of whom have already been rested for 2 matches, so it's great to see the thinking is there.

They may have an entirely different plan in mind for the Saints, or there may be mitigating factors for the form of individuals. I'm just calling it as a I see it, like everyone else.

When was the last time you saw him play to make judgements such as these.
Bullant reports suggest he's been consistently solid.

Forgot to reply to this before: from what I've seen & gleaned, his Bullants form hasn't been particularly worthwhile, but he has definitely been the guy who has been forced to play a role to cater to others in the squad, rather than the other way around.

Not all that easy to tell who will survive the cut from the extended bench. Pretty sure Carrazzo won't be omitted but any of the rest are some chance of playing I reckon.

Interesting Robinson not in expanded bench. Given the wrap Ratten gave him he must of been a naughty boy.

With McLean out I can see them picking Browne, who whilst hasnt been a BOG in Bullants, has had a great pre season and has done everything asked of him. Been playing a very in and under role at Bullants changing between HB and midfield.

Given the St Kilda side I think the bench will be: Browne, Carrazzo, Garlett & White.

Carrazzo, Garlett, Thornton and either Hendo/White would be my bench.

Our forward line looks more like our centre line about halfway through a quater when Betts is moved into the midfield for a spell

whats scarier is that melbourne people have been quoted as saying they were happy for him to go as he has chronic hip and ankle issues which will restrict him for the rest of his career.

Melbourne have made plenty of errors over time.

Lets see how it pans out

I think the heart of Melbourne were deeply disappointed when he told them he wanted to leave.
