He is 27 in Sept

Might have 7 yrs left; or might have 3.

Levi and Donald's Son haven't played a game yet.

Surely we need a genuine fwd (or two) to go all the way ??

Yes. If the players really want to.
I believe this bunch, plus natural improvement/refinement of list, is capable of winning more than one Premiership in the next 5 or 6 years provided they play with the commitment, intensity and ruthlessness that Geelong and StK do now and that Brisbane did in their wonder years.
At the moment, I sometimes (too often) get the feel that these guys do just what they need to and that's good enough. They seem pretty happy with themselves too much of the time and are too readily eager to celebrate that notion...
There are excpetions in our team, of course, but EVERYONE needs to bust their gut ALL the time. And we must be committed on and off the field. Then we can be great.

Coach aside (different thread and different discussion), our blokes need to want it more than the other blokes and that is not something you can switch on or off. Geelong took a couple years longer than they should have to 'get' this and so did StK.

Do you have a problem with that?

Interesting - I was thinking more about whether we have enough young talent and whether there is enough time for them esp the young talls (ie: by the time a Donaldson or Levi make it as genuine fwds, how old will the skip be??). But you are right, it's not just about talent, it's also about work ethic and ruthless determination. But that will hopefully come with time and experience. As Denis would say, inconsistency is the hellmark yada yada yada

We will win a Premiership with Judd when RoK comes into the team and young Kerr enters the stage.

This is my Premiership team in 2012.

FB: Joseph, Jamo, Bower
HB: Russell, Austin, O'Keefe
C: Lucas, McLean, Simpson
HF: Kerr, Henderson, Yarran
F: Betts, Waite, Murphy

Rck: Kreuzer, Judd, Gibbs

Int: Warnock, White, Walker, Recruit

I'm allowed to dream

What is it with this obsession with ROK?
Did he kick 12 goals or something in a millenium game or something?
I've seen him play last year and train this year...he didn't stand out from other rookies imo.
Tell me what am I missing?

White...ditto above?

Surely you can't break up our 3 piece band of brothers "Black Magic" who have shown plenty more than White and ROK, by leaving out Garlett. He will be much stronger by 2012.

good thread VB

according to the smarter, wiser and more realistic posters on here, Ratten needs more time, a few more years in order for us to assess him. We just lost one forward so you know, Ratts needs more time

we should be doing everything in our power to be aiming for 17 from today. this mentality that has developed amongst our supporters of 'just wait 3 more years' is weak.

It's impossible to predict these things.

I think we have the natural talent on the list but we are yet to click with consistent team performances.

When we click into gear or if we click into gear is the million dollar question but as other teams like Melbourne Freo Port are all gaining ground quickly for Juddys sake I hope we click soon.

Yep because its the mentality of the supporters that will make the difference. Its up to us if Judd wins a flag with us or not.

Who said anything about another 3 years?

Please provide quotes.

Obviously, flags are so hard to predict and so hard to win. The right combination of players at the right time with the right momentum peaking at the right time of the year with the right luck with injuries and the wrong luck going with your key opposition etc.

DOA may have been right when he said our immediate premiership window closed when Fevola left.

Most premiership teams have very few weaknesses across the park.

We have obvious deficiencies.

But who knows which of our young guys, especially the lesser feted, will come on in a rush and surprise everyone.

Personally I cant think more than 12 months ahead.

Forever hopeful though, thats what being a supporter is all about

It depends when the war starts, and when the new fair-haired coach is appointed.

Our biggest deficiencies at the moment are off field...the list has the potential to go all the way....and in the near future but some changes are still required at the club before this can come to fruition...

Even those with the simplest knowledge of the game have to realise that you don't take a player like Brendan Fevola out of the side and not drop off a little. He had a major hand in pretty much every big win we've had over the last 6 years or so. He's left a very very big hole.
