Clearly in both trades we gave up too much .. pick3 & pick20 should have been enough in the Judd deal and Fev for Henderson / pick12 at most was not enough from Brisbane let alone a sweetner from us

1) You are implying Kennedy was worth a top 5 pick at the end of 2007 - he wasn't then and hasn't shown enough since to suggest otherwise. A good honest toiler is Josh but nothing much more.
2) In a couple of years I expect it will be clear that we won the Fev trade - I would have accepted pick #12 OR Henderson for him let alone both.

Icke showed he liked to pay well during his Freo days and unfortunately nothing has changed at Carlton. This has concerned me with Icke.

I was in the car when the Fev deal was announced - I went from jubilant to mildly disappointed when they finally mentioned we gave up 27. We were over a barrel though, had to take the best offer.

I was rapt with the fev deal. I thought we were going to get stuck with him and then have him banned by the AFL.
The Judd deal excited me too. We were stuffed before then. Judd gave us some self esteem and got us back to a situation where a 20 point loss is the end of the world. In the end i feel both deals were fair to both clubs and thats what you want.

Saturday night set us back a bit. The lack of effort was totally unexpected. Not since last years flogging at the hands of the bombers have i felt that flat about a carlton performance.

Fortunately it is a long season. There will be plenty more twists and turns yet and i look forward to watching it all unfold.

Go Blues !

Fair enough you obviously believe that and I respect that.
Kennedy did get drafted at pick 4 by us however that tells me something then and still now.
Watch Callam Bartlett play shortly and then will discuss this again.
Thankfully Henderson seems like he will ease some of this pain.

Forces within the AFL work differently when it does not involve CFC. There is no doubt about that but watching Voss, media and Fev/Brown combination jump with joy has made me physically ill of late. Even the little squib Bartlett is suddenly singing Fevola's praises!
Sometimes I think we should have fought, lost and have him suspended rather then keep watching this unfold in front of us. Fev would have learnt a big lesson with the suspension as well.

Let's see if they win a flag first before feeling depressed.

I agree. I'm still not convinced.
Especially their midfield - once Black and Power start getting niggling injuries with age

Good Grief, who was that 1st game kid playing for the Scum!!! He tore us a new @-hole!!! Lucky we didnt draft him, might have made us predictable!

Well Melksham went before Lucas and Colyer went before our 2nd pick. What did you want us to do?

Regards Cazzesman

Good call, I didnt check on the draft order.

Agree with the BL thing. This year could be one of those years when anyone of number teams can win. Saints will struggle now with Reiwoldt out for most of the season, Geelong have lost their invincibility, WB are a big show, but lurking in the background are the Brisbane Lions.
I too would be sick if they win a Flag after we gave them the Coleman medalist.

Dont think BL will win premiership - not good enough midfield and defence still a bit suspect
As for FEV trade - Hendo and Lucas was a good get for Fev - surprised if his best footy is past him or if not will be shortly -hendo has a lot of improvement left in him -still took 9 marks on Saturday and apart from Yarran Lucas was a shining light in respect to the new players on saturday -a long way to go but looked good

Besides Brisbane havent played anyone good yet and without a super performance from Brown against us would be 2-1 presently

Just like the Brisbane games, and the StKilda games, we do not change a single thing! That game was IDENTICAL to the first game with Essendon* last year.

We give them FAR TO MUCH SPACE through the centre, and for Ratten to KNOW that the use pace, you would think he would have learnt the last time.

Walker and Jordan Russell were poor tonight. Went at it at 50% and didn't seem to give a !@#$%&. Their turnovers cost us!

Warnock..............AGAIN........... is a complete SPUD! All those haters who criticised me for saying it last week - What do you have to say now huh? My god!

Kreuzer, Murphy & Gibbs - VERY DISSAPOINTING! - Murphy was well held all night but even still, i expect better from those three.

Setanta was way down on form - but at least he tried. Made mistakes, but didn't stand about with hands on hips like a few other players!

Simpson was really the only player that could keep his chin up. Went at it all night like a true soldier.

RATTEN-
Cleary, you haven't learnt from last year. We need direction playing through the middle and we need a kick-out structure that actually looks PLANED and not thought of on the spare of the moment. We need to have forwards home instead of flooding up the ground when we're 3 goals down. We Need STRUCTURE> cause right now, i don't think we have ANY.

Good teams don't play well one week and shit the next, and that seems to be the way we've played for 3 years now.

Questions regarding Ratten are now Justified in my opinion. We're stuck with him through the season, so he's got 18 more games in which to prove us wrong - and I hope he does - but the questions are indeed justified. You can't deny that!

Correct Ryan...we go out there and have no plans in place....Ratts's coaching strategy as far as I can see...is this...RE-ACTIVE...he reacts and does not proact....he doesn't go in with a plan to win...he goes into a game hoping to be able to stop the other team from doing whatever it is he thinks they are doing....he needs to start working out what we are supposed to be doing..on every line...plans structures and clear strategies coming out of defence going foward etc...getting sick of repeating his deficiencies...very ordinary coach....

J&thaKs makes a good point.
Sydney won the flag a few years ago because they made other teams play their game. We hated the way they played, but it was like arguing with an idiot: they drag you down to their level and beat you with their experience.
We need to develop our own game plan and make it instinctive, not try to beat them at their game, whatever it is (especially when you don't seem to know what their game is).

I know we've discussed leadership or lack of leadership in the past, but on Saturday did anyone notice Jamo's leadership qualities in anything he did?

Bit difficult to Captain a team from FB at your first attempt.

Which made his appointment all the more unusual.

Is it possible that Fev was carrying this side throughout the last 9 years?

I don't know about carrying the side but I get what you mean...he was the one shining light, passionate player despite his brain fades....what we are left with now is drab...we really do lack quality leadership both on and off the field but especially off...we are in desperate need of a coach with big cahunas who is a tactical expert to create the discipline and direction that the team lacks in spades at the moment...

I'm following Fevs progress at Brissy with keen interest...as I have always believed the club and the atmosphere around the place had a lot to do with how Fev imploded with monotonous regularity....I hope before years end Fev proves me wrong but if he indeed turns it around and becomes the team player we wished he was then you just have to wonder... :sly:

Wish people would stop talking about Fevola. 'If we had Fevola then blah blah blah'. Well he's gone and he's not coming back, time to get over it, move forward and accept what we got.
