btw, they have 6 talls and we have 8. Mind you, Bower and Thornton play small too.

Hammer, Dangles and Austin all still underdone and potentially worthy of a start, plus Garlett must be in contention, and of course no Judd. There's definitely some big pressure on spots, which is great. Yes, I didn't expect to see Joey named either, but I hope he tears it up. He'll need to if he wants to hold onto his selection. Go Blues!

Anderson is definitely a match-up decision. Looking over Richmond's forward options, he is well suited to how they'll line up. It would have been Armfield if he were right to go.

Walker will have to be used in a midfield role to support Murphy, Robinson, Yarran & Betts, who won't be able to contribute there consistently (each for a different reason).

Pretty happy with that line-up, had one name wrong in the end, and in isolation it appears to be an astute tactical decision.

Blues by plenty.

Would have prefered Hadley or Lucas in the side over Joey .................... I don't know why they talked Lucas up to debut then not play him ............

I'm thrilled anderson has been rewarded for his preseaon form.

I think he has some limitations in his game that he will need to overcome to become an AFL standard player, but it's great to see his has been rewarded.

Quote:
As per the Club’s policy, Carlton players will wear black armbands on Thursday evening as a mark of respect for:

Tom Grant - Life Member - passed away in January

Kevin Clarke - played 57 games for Carlton between 1956-1959 - passed away in October last year

Clen Denning - played three seasons for Carlton for 18 games (1935 to 37) - passed away in November

Ken McKaige - former player who played 8 games and was a member of the 1953 Reserves premiership - passed away in late September

The Club has also deemed it appropriate for the players and on-field staff to wear black armbands as a mark of respect for:

Geoff McClure - Journalist, who passed away last week

And

June Middleton - life long Carlton supporter who lived in an iron lung for over 60 years, who passed away late last year

Joey instead of Garlett or Hadley? :? Can only assume they have a specific role in mind for Joey. Good luck to him, hope he does his job for the team.

Danger game.

At least the waiting, talking, controversy and speculation of a long and difficult pre-season is finally behind us.....

Judge us by our actions...

Let the real thing commence... :fight:

Go Blues!!!

Think they will line up like this:

B. Thornton, Jamison, Joseph
HB. Scotland, Bower, Russell
C. Walker, Anderson, Simpson
HF. Carrazzo, Henderson, Robinson
F. Waite, O’hAilpin, Betts
R. Kruezer, Gibbs, Murphy
INT. Warnock, McLean, Yarran, Houlihan

I don't think it is anywhere where our best 22 will be by seasons end.

Guys like Judd, Hadley, Hampson, Jacobs, Lucas, Garlett, Browne, Austin, O'Keefe, Davies, Armfield, Grigg will hopefully all be pushing their cases very soon!

No excuses this game, Richmond is absolute rubbish based on the paper team.

They have been spanked in the pre-season for a reason and I expect that trend to continue.

Our defence should smash that forward line. Reiwoldt is an overrated Brad Fisher clone, Morton is the only player I would even contemplate worrying about, Nahas might be tricky dicky but if AJ or Joey take him I expect him to be blanketted.

Hislop, Thompson, Edwards, Tambling and Connors are all usefull at turning the ball over by foot, in fact so are a few of the defenders.

80 tackles and we win by 60pts+

Ando to do a tagging job, Psych? Would have thought Joseph would be the type to go into the middle to niggle and annoy. Ando to start on the bench for mine - thrown onto half-back at the 9 minute mark of the 1st quarter.

All right...............bring it on :fight:

Lets start the year with a huge win, followed by another 2 wins after this one before the Juddster starts 2010.

Lets stick it up everyone.

Great to see the experienced Houlihan, Scotland, Simpson, Walker and Carrazzo who are all good defensively and offensively (regardless of what some doomsdayers think). I hope Houla continues the form he finished with in the last game of the season in 2009....as our best player (some seeem to have forgottn that, but then again those some seem to forget that winning is the name of the game on a week by week basis).

Bad luck to Hadley...IMO he looked better than McLean in the preseason.
Good luck to Anderson who did suffer from below average in every preseason game.

I'll be disappointed if we don't win by more than 10 goals. I prefer 83 points because we are a better team than the one in round 1 in 2009.

There's pressure for spots so I expect a huge win and a great performance by all.

Can't wait.

Go Blues

I would've liked to seen either Wiggins or Hadley in this week for their physical hardness against these skinny young tigers.
No mercy blues, hit'em HARD!!

Russell??????? WTF??????

How long are we going to persist with this totally over-rated first round draft pick??????

He must have pictures of the match committee with small animals or something.

This great club will never move forward while second rate hacks like this keep getting a game...........

I am pretty sure he will Doc. Went onto Goodwin last week after quarter time and did a good job. MC was very happy with him. I am sure that is why he is in the side. Finally getting back to a role he played at junior level.

Happy to see him in defence but with Thornton, Jamo and Bower all back there it gets a bit tall.

As for AJ he has played BP all pre-season and I am under the impression that Ratts and Co want him to play a more offensive role this year to keep developing his game. With Armfield out he will be needed on Nahas.

Congrats to Joey for his section. Has had a massive pre-season and it has paid off. Hope he can silence a few of the critics. He will be one of the big improvers this year.
