I agree that this game does not mean much .... but I like others was disappointed at the apparent lack of a forward structure/strategy that worked.
It looks to me like the long high bomb to the square is part of the strategy, hoping the big blokes esp. Hampson can use his height to pluck the mark. I also saw a couple of deliberate high lobs into the fwd line in the intra-club. Looked like they were trying to lob onto stationary contest where we have height advantage.
May sound all right in theory but I doubt it works much in practice as a high ball gives 'third man up' too much time to get to the contest for the spoil. Perhaps a spill to the ground is an acceptable result?
No panic ... just concern.
...and because we brought the ball forward sooooooo slowly, the 3rd man up had plenty of time, but wasn't needed. The ball never was kicked to the advantage of Kreuzer, Henderson or Hampson when they were KP fwds.
When you look at the calibre of big blokes we have to play forward and understand each individual's strengths, the long bomb would work.
You gotta know who you are kicking it to, how and where you should kick it as well.
The team will gel together and the sense of proximity will develop, but the team structure needs to be found out in the next 2 weeks and practised in the 2 weeks following that before round 1 starts.
After that, there's no practise time left...it's the real deal. That's what scares me. We are leaving things to work out at the last minute. That's dangerous especially given we are practising with Judd who will be missing for the first 3 rounds.
Hurry up and get your shit together Ratts.
4 ruckmen...where do they fit in?
Setanta, Henderson, Waite?
Ratts has got to work out where these guys play as quickly as possible......and not when it's too late (midseason).
