Carlton coach Damien Keeping said landing Shierlaw and Exon was a boon for the Blues.
“I’ve no doubt Nat would be very highly sought-after if she was in the open draft,” Keeping said.

Exon, 23, is a middle distance runner and former soccer player with Victorian premier league club Box Hill.

Discovered after attending an AFL talent search, she hadn’t played football until this season and had been hindered by a hip injury in the past two years.
Her return to competitive sport and her first foray into football with Darebin has been a success, marked by last Sunday’s grand final victory.
“I’ve always loved footy and when I heard about these talent searches I thought, now’s a good time to get into it,” Exon said.
“My whole family is pretty footy crazy. My brother (Ryan) plays. It’s the best sport in the world really.
“I always wanted to play sport at the highest level possible and seeing as there hasn’t been a pathway up until now, that was one of the reasons why I tried other sports.”

Disappointing but thats the nature of professional sport. Nat and her family were really enjoying her time at Carlton.
It's interesting to see how it's worthwhile for a player to go to another state for such a short season. No doubt they'd have to spend quite a bit of pre-season time there. For such minimal payment, it's only the love of the game that could let it happen.
