Lining up against the Hawks to kick off the season on Sunday. No Brooke Vickers or Tarni Brown and of course Erone is out for the season. Vickers pace in particular will be missed as we seem to be a hard working team lacking dash and polish. Captain's run on Saturday morning is an open session for those interested.

Probably be a couple of debutants on Sunday, perhaps Beatty and Keck?

I wonder if Vescio will have impact playing on the wing? Been pretty invisible last few seasons as a forward.

Tuned in to see the last five minutes as I haven’t bothered with AFLW for a few years.

I was instantly reminded of my last footy season playing for Macquarie Uni fourths in the late nineties. Not junior football mind you, this was senior footy. Players unable to bend down and pickup the ball with any confidence. Big, wide and solid (not tall, just very solid) players dominating packs by barging their way through once they gain possession. Fumble after fumble. Players grabbing the footy and looking at their boot before they kick (to make sure they don’t miss the ball I presume) as they launch a “quick” kick forward out of a pack. The occasional flash of a handball chain through the middle.

You get the picture I think.

And on top of that the Carlton team was awful.

In all fairness, the standard of the AFLW game is really improving as a whole. Dont judge it by this game today. It was horrible. And Carlton are really horrible. You need to watch the others teams. Especially Sydney, Melbourne as they are very good.

I cant believe how bad we are. And we were very quick to sign the coach to an extension as well which is quite Carlton like.

Why is our AFLW team so bad?

At the game I noticed Hawks set up a lot better behind the ball when in their F50 so were able to intercept a few of our clearing kicks.

They also marked a lot more whereas we tended to drop them.

From the little AFLW I've watched over the last couple of years there seems to be an immense gulf between the top teams and the bottom teams both in ability and game style. Sadly Carlton has fallen further into the latter group as the comp has expanded.

Took the kids down for a Father's Day drive. Nice ground. Having the water in the background (& the breeze coming off it) reminded me of watching footy at Queenscliff as a kid.

The breeze really was strong - the hawks handled it better & kicked a few against it. Wheras we really couldn't make any inroads going to that end.

A couple of months ago was planning on taking kids to Gold Coast game as no more mens games in qld. Then realised in Mackay which sucked, but mens end up in Brisbane anyway. Early doors but seems like a great shimmy

Hooray!!!!!!!!!

McKay kicked our last goal for the season, last night, and we just won in Mackay.

Amazing!

Great win today. Midfield of Guerin, Hill, Sherar and McKay dominant.
Cats much improved last year and tied with Nth last week. Kept them to their lowest score in 7 seasons.

Can't pick the ball up and can't take a mark to save themselves.

WTF do they train?

That was a step backwards. Difficult conditions with heavy rain before the match, but 15 marks for the game is a low for all games played so far in 2024.
Trying to play a faster handball game, yet we seem to be playing at least one tall too many each week. Celine Moody is averaging just 4 possessions and 1 mark per game, and Mia Austin hasn’t fired a shot since the 1st quarter of Round 1.
3 of their 4 games have been in poor conditions but they need to add some run.
