Gunna be a long season I fear... No midfield drive and skills to maintain possession non existent.... add to the fact that our tackles are broken/non existent allowing the opposition to cleanly dispose (good to see they're matching the men with something :eyeroll:

Shame as we have the best ruck in the comp.

Same old, same old.....
Rely on 3 or 4 stars and the rest run around with minimal strategic intent.

Every year I watch the first game of the AFLW

I feel that the introduction of new teams has diluted the talent pool even further and the standard doesn't appear to get any better
It appears ( this could be my dodgy eyesight ) that the girls have bulked up a bit - whilst this might appear good I am not sure it will attract spectators

I worry for this competition the expansion has happened to quickly for the talent available
The grounds need to be smaller to encourage more scoring having the ball camped up one end of the ground for most of quarters is not a good look

I'm with you.
I thought I would give it a crack again (like every year) and I could only bare to watch the 2nd quarter.
The skills are well below par for a national comp. and seem to not have improved in years.
I agree that the expansion will/has dilute talent and what that results in.
I'll try again next year.
Good luck to the girls.

Eleven scoring shots vs three over an entire game?
Not going to be pulling in the crowds with that.

Agreed.

It should be perfectly fine to question the standard without the accusation that you're questioning the validity of the competition.

The standard is poor. Really poor. It needs to exist so that the standard improves but here and now it's a tough watch. Personally I would watch a handful of games a season. I want the Carlton women's team to win but I don't care if they don't. You could offer me 20 premierships in a row with the AFLW team but if the other option was winning a game in the men's comp, I'm sorry. I'm taking the latter.

Again, doesn't mean anyone is sexist, a mysoginist, doesn't believe women should play sport, or that the AFLW should not exist.

It just isn't that good yet.

But then I watch the A League which is an equally shit standard compared to the top leagues of its sport so I don't know what my argument is.

Maybe I *am* a sexist chauvinist pig.

And I still posted in the AFLW forum...so maybe I care more than I think.

I think you are spot on.
The skills seem to be getting worse each year and yes the grounds need to be smaller.
I have tried to get interested in AFLW but the games are becoming unwatchable.

When all teams don't even play each other once, I'm more than happy to question the validity of the competition.

I understand the commercial and social intent of rushing it in but it will unfortunately take a long time to become a well skilled competition.
As a competition/group, it doesn't like feedback and refuses to be treated differently. Even though it is.
It wont play on smaller grounds or with smaller footy's because that is inferring it's inferior. They wont play "curtain raisers" because that infers it is lesser than the male game. They're "double headers"

Yet the reality is, a 3rd division local mens side would beat any AFLW team. That unfortunately is where the game sits. It's not a criticism. It's a fact.
It's going to take time.

3rd division.
I think an under 14 boys would beat them

3 season ending injuries already and not even through round 1. They are not full time so injuries like this could jeopardise their jobs and if they have children at home even worse.
They are not going to have access to the rehabilitation the blokes have.
You hope the insurance is good and covers for all medical and losses of income.

I really don't think that they have thought this competition through properly.

I was watching it.
Geelong got a free in the last minute to win the game.
2 goals to 1.
The commentators were trying to make out it was a good game.

crap decision…along with…GWS…Gold Coast…
games in other countries…irregular draw…
rule changes…meddling in club decisions…(Coniglio)
corporate Grand Finals…irregular home ground
advantages…game prices…food prices…free
to air availability…putting NOTHING back into
grass roots football…Ginnvn’…!

I watched some games on the weekend and definitely agree that the overall standard has dropped. I thought in previous years there had been some progression but not this year.

So many things wrong with the AFLW competition, which is a shame because I really want it to succeed.
Three goals for an entire game = unwatchable.

Almost as bad as when all teams don't play each other twice really.
