Quote:
Carlton star Darcy Vescio headlines a small group of AFLW players fighting for better pay and conditions.

Quote:
If Vescio and her group harnesses enough support...the 2020 AFLW season will be in serious danger.

Vescio’s party of players has engaged high profile law firm Maurice Blackburn to represent them. Some players want better pay, some want a longer season which would see every club play against each other once, and others are advocates for a combination of these two elements.

The AFLW pay and conditions dispute will continue after the AFLPA did not receive a majority vote to approve the latest Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Quote:
Out of the 14 AFLW clubs, 10 clubs had majority support (four of them unanimous and a further four in excess of 80 per cent) and four clubs majority opposed, with one club having less than 10 per cent of players approving of the deal.

It was a better standard last year, but still a long long way to go. Getting kids growing through the ranks will help it improve ongoing now.

Yes, onwards and upwards now for AFLW. I'm looking forward to how good the standard will be in 3-4 years time. Go Blues.

Kelli Underwood quite unpleasant to listen to as usual.

Well done on getting the gig though.

Umpire asks for another boundary throw in, as the first one was too short. Clock is not stopped.

JOKE. Not a serious competition.

Looks like the commentators have been instructed not to criticise the frequent poor kicking.

How will the problem of low scoring be rectified?

Is skill improvement the only real answer?

Is it actually a problem?

Its a serious competition, but the AFL don't take it too serious and provide sub standard ....well...everything

get them to invest in the game and the Commission can't get their hands out of their pocket, but get them a wage and some benefits for themselves and they spend BIG.

Known around the circles for being tight and unethical the way they do business with those outside their circle ie pinch ideas presented to them in good faith

It seems most girls can't kick further than 30 metres.

the talent pool thins out with more teams, and will continue to do so as they increase number of teams, but I expect improvement in the long run from the girls currently aged between 14 and 18 who have been playing for a few years

Will be interesting to see if that holds true, when nice contracts are offered by other clubs.

Perhaps not, with the news that Sarah Hosking is likely to jump ship to Richmond https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/afl ... 55g4o.html. Same article suggests we are looking to get something out of the Demons diaspora with former captain Elise O'Dea and Maddy Guerin favoured to come our way. Generally speaking I am not a fan of paying much in terms of draft picks for experienced players as the quality of young players coming through the ranks is miles ahead of all but the very best of the players who come through the underage system (such as it was) even 5 let alone 10 years ago. That is not a criticism of the players, it is just a recognition of the benefits of coming through a better organised system where options to play at a high level really didn't exist before. So sad though it is to possibly lose Sarah Hosking an investment in youth might well pay dividends, whilst care has to be taken with how much is given up to get O'Dea quality though she is.

Would be disappointing to lose Sarah Hosking (my daughters collectively groaned when I told them). O'Dea is a beast, would be great pick-up and would certainly offset the loss of Hosking. Guerin will only be 21 when the next season rolls around, already with a few years in the system (missed most of this season with an ACL) she could still be a handy addition if that's how it pans out.
