Quote: Should fans be flocking to watch?Hell yeah. Standing in the outer at Princes Park, it felt like how footy used to be. Jump the fence and listen to the quarter-time address, you’re so close you’re virtually part of the huddle. It’s a different game to the one we’re used to, but equally engaging. Shorter quarters are a winner, too (15 mins plus time-on). Individual players will make an impression, whether it be the aerial work of Carlton’s Vescio or the pin point kicking of Demons defender Paxman. Quote:

Excellent result for the blues yesterday. Looking forward to seeing how the 16 a side goes. Looks like the coach has a strategy of defence early then run later in the game. |

Match-day photos 1 | 2 Coach's thoughts Damian Keeping wrote: “The result is really pleasing so early on and gives us great reward for effort, however, we’re under no illusions to the fact that there’s a lot more work to be done before Round 1,” Keeping told Carlton Media.
“The work rate was really significant on the back of a hard pre-season building a strong fitness base to finish games well. The perseverance to find a way to get on top after being challenged early on was terrific. “The pressure early on was of a really high standard and we knew Melbourne would come out firing being the proud and talented group that they are.” |
