Well at least every team is playing each other once in that version.

How worried are they about audiences and the talent pool?

swans hawthorn and geelong are not involved and so they will keep going on their merry way and collect Premierships for the next 10-20 years

Haha, it's called being progressive. Collingwood really wanted it and so did Geelong, only one of them received an inaugural license.

In case you hadn't noticed, females are the majority in the population. Females only make 28% of our membership, Geelong is close to 40%.

Proof will be in the pudding but it's an exciting opportunity if you can remove yourself from your male thought bubble

afl are scared about womens soccer

Haha, they wouldn't be that worried about male soccer. Get a grip

For all the AFL's progressive stance on this, it's still a tiny competition run in what is essentially the pre-season. The cynical amongst you will no doubt recognise this as another attempt by the AFL of putting footy front-and-centre 365 days a year.

That being said, I'm a massive supporter and I look forward to heading down to Princes Park to watch us play.

For all the talk of this being wonderfully socially progressive, which it is, the cynical side of me knows the primary motive of the AFL and their subsidiary CEO'S is revenue growth which will boost their performance bonuses.
It was a no brainer Carlton being included given the low membership numbers.

More interested in when the first salary cap and drug issues arise.

Then we'll know they're fair dinkum!

Going to have to come up with a new name for the Father/Son rule to cover all the new scenarios.

The heritage rule, the legacy rule?

Sen will give more coverage to this than the a league and basketball, mission accomplished.
Looking forward to the female best and fairest award for the competition, who'll take Caro home tonight

When the first player gets done for drink driving, or a boozy punch up, then the competition will truly have come of age.

I am sure these women will be great athletes in their own right but I can't take it seriously and I am sure I'm not alone.

I don't like watching any women's team sports except netball oh and beach volleyball.

Mind you, if they sanitize the men's comp much more, clubs will be able to elevate their women in the ones.

I understand the irony in the last paragraph but its a serious point. There is no logic to suggest that having a womens competition is going to bring more women to the game. Its inherently confused middle class feminist thinking.

Can we draft the blonde one that takes species and kicks long goals? She's often interviewed and in the promos. That will get me watching.

Might be time to set up a new sub-forum (like Talking Northern, Talking AFL, etc) in the rather than just a thread?
