If we had of kicked straight last night we might have had a chance.

Carrazzo's kicking was a disgrace and what did he end up kicking ... 3 points? It could have been 3 goals, I will say though he did present and played very well besides his kicking.

Brad Fisher is another one, kicking more points than goals, but Setanta .. what happened to him and his kicking, was it nerves?

We have to kick more goals than points to win and we have to get our forward line coach to show Carrazo how to kick for goal.

Nearly all of his shots were from the pocket. Given our lack of targets they pushed wide to the boundary and it made the goals harder to kick

Also with Danny Jacobs allowed to do what he wanted for the first 2/3 qtrs we couldn't go direct

But some of them were gettable shots on goal that should of at least came close, some of them were way off

His last shot he should have kicked which was directly in front. He seems to kick better during play than from set shots

Should get him in the middle - ball magnet

The only shot he had that was gettable was when he was 40 out and right in-front.

The other 3 were 2 shots deep in the pocket and another was a snap around the body in heavy traffic. Given that Caraz is no foward player, I thought he played really well, was only 1 of 2 options all night.

Carrots needs to play on and have a quick snapshot across the body - he drills those through the sticks but he can't kick a set shot for nuts.

Who is at our club who can give these kids some technical coaching in kicking set shots??

I can't think of any of the current mob of coaches who would be in that much of a position to - TD probably the best of that lot but still not a great set shot.

Not Sticks surely, they'd be kicking mongrel helicopter shots - but what about Braddles - he rarely missed.

It baffles me how footballers are able to hit targets in general play with ease then go to water when placed in front of goal. Just pretend you're passing it to the guy in the 3rd row behind the goals FFS, it's not that hard.

You could see he'd lost all confidence by then.

What's Carrots like lining up for goal at traiining? Does he get much practice lining up for goal at training?

Again, I question why he was used as a leading forward, when firstly his kicking is awful and secondly he is particularly good in other areas of the ground.

I know we were low on forwards, but Carrots was clearly not a good decision.

He wasn't used as our leading forward as per say Lanky. He was tagging Guerra who is so creative for the Hawks as was evident last week. So Carrazzo was tagging him and when we got the ball wasn't paid enough respect by Guerra and found more space then others. What bamboozles me is that his field kicking is magnifficent usually hits his targets on the chest. Oh well i hope he takes it upon himself to stay back at training and have say....about..100 shots at goal atleast.

Looked like he got the yips after his 1st shot from directly in front. Probably has too much time to think about the shot, and is not used to having shots in games. Agree we need a kicking coach, Jesse D. is another who is very shaky on set shots.

He took Guerra to the cleaners.

The specific problem with carrots is that when he lines up he makes a conscious decision to run-in and kick in a straight line. Most of us have been taught to run in straight but you should actually go on a slight arc. His ball drop is also pretty horrendous amking things a lot worse.

Fish and Carlos also need to get some coaching because this is basic football 101. Fish has a high ball drop and kicks off 2 steps while Carlos has his forces go in all directions. Carlos will have a few chances so he really needs to make them count.

Someone get a tape of Mark Williams kicking, that guy doesnt miss. Mainly because he gets balanced and doesnt try to overkick the ball.

I've just watched the Bullants very good win today, and quite a few Carlton players seem to have trouble passing to their team mates.

And.....I'm not being critical.....just wondering why.

Luke Blackwell is a prime example of a kid who has no trouble getting the ball, but has trouble delivering it accurately to a team mate or to their advantage.

Jesse D. Smith is another.

Do posters agree with this? .....or am I being too demanding at their age?

Goal kicking and the poor attitude towards practising for goal kicking is a real pet hate of mine. The good aspect of this is that we created the goal scoring chances. With our list as it is at this point, and with two of our key forwards missing the match I think the fact we created enough chances to win is a bloody good thing.

The fact we wasted those chances shows we have room for improvement and that we are inexperienced. We'll get there, we just need time.

That said, it shits me that there seems to be such a poor and ad hoc approach to goal kicking at training. :garthp:

you know the goal kicking practice at training, it's pure optional right? seems like whenever all the training drills finishes player may choose to stay as long as they want for goal kicking practice, some players only stayed for 10 mins and head to showers.

The players can practice it all they like but if the lack the confidence to carry it out it wont matter how much you practice.

I never missed a 3 foot putt aon the practice green - couldnt sink one to save my life on the course

yes... he would have been better advised to kick the ball between the LARGE posts... he'll learn from that for next time.

Well work out some sort of drill or excercise to help the players with the confidence in front of goals. Why can players get fitter, stronger, faster, better educated at following gameplans, but they can't improve their goal kicking?

Blackwell hsn't looked too bad to me over the times I've seen him.

Jesse D clearly has a set shot problem ... he takes one tep then 3 or 4 little stutters as he moves to the right then hooks his leg. This is the way he practices at training. He will never improve his set shot kicking unless he uses a kicking coach who will get him to cut the stutter and swing straight through the ball.

And all the best goal kickers have a straight even paced runup and kick straight through the ball. Take a look at Fevola, Williams, Lloyd, even Marc Murphy ....,

Blues have the worst turnover record in the competition, you are not imagining it, but I don't think it's just about technique. I think a lot of it is in the mind, feeling under pressure when there is none, and also not having targets clear of opponents a lot of the time, like many other teams have. Our forwards, when we have any up forward, are often very slow to create space.
