There's been a lot of talk recently about Jarrad Waite being the future at Carlton. While I don't disagree with that I think the impact Brad Fisher is going to have, and in fact is already having is either overlooked or underated. I remember a comment made by Dermott Brereton a couple of years back (yes he does over anaylise at times, but also makes sense occasionally) about the ability to take a contested mark inside forward 50 being a rare and precious commodity. Brad Fisher would easily be the best exponent of the contested mark at Carlton and in my opinion could hold his head high in the company of anybody in the AFL in this regard. I also believe the new interpretations in marking contests regarding holding, chopping etc that we have seen this pre-season will only benefit Fisher as he is not a body on body player and is near on unbeatable if he gets a clean jump at the footy.

I always knew he was mobile for his height but having seen him in the flesh on Friday night I noticed he is quick full stop. You always hear people say "this guy is gunna cause problems because he is this tall and this quick", which I believe is mostly rubbish because height is useless if you can't take a grab as is pace if you can't find the footy.In the case of Brad Fisher however at 192cm he can outmark most players standing 196cm+, he can also match pace with most midfielders, and from my observations seems to be getting more and more involved in the game as his career develops.

His goalkicking still remains a weakness but his can be improved with plenty of pracice.

This year he will either slip under the guard of sides, or they will focus more heavily on him taking some much needed pressure off Fevola and Waite. Either scenario can only benefit the Blues.

Good player and one of ShaneO's better selections as I believe they had been following Fisher's form for a couple of seasons and he wasnt just a wildcard choice....reminds me a lot of Richard Dennis...like Dennis is a great one grab and seems to have those extra long arms like Ken Hunter did. He does have good mobility but not unlike Dennis his main worry for me is that he is injury prone...I think his career will be frustated by injury and he needs looking after and not pushed into positions like FF/CHF where his marking might be great but he doesnt have the body strength and will get knocked around...if we look after him I can see him as integral part of the next premeirship team....

I think he has been the best mark at the club for over 2 years now. He seems to have not lost anything from the injury he had.

a few more years on the weights he could become a player similar to Aaron Hamill.... both he and Jarrod would be very dangerous players and we have the some players to build around Waite, Fish, Fev, T-bird, Bower, Harts so decent talls we just need ball winners and pace through the middle but the ball is in motion

Benefit of hindsight really as we chose Cam Croad ahead of him...what if he was gone by 72?

I think we were genuinely stunned that Simpson was available at 45 ...no doubt...(Was at the fightback day and that came through loud and clear that were expecting him to go in the top 20...perhaps we were just grasping at straws)
The rest were speculative that year.
Great to see they have come through and agree about Fish's one grab....haven't seen it since Kernahan....perhaps Fish is emulating his kicking too... :lol:

Fisher is a beauty and one of about 2 players on our list who can take a contested mark
I would go further Game he is in fact a better player now than before he did his knee - his endurance and athleticism is better - he worked exceptionally hard on his rehabilitation last year and the year before
He will be better than hamill I reckon- 192 cms rather than 185 cms means he can do much more damage

Dont forget Longmuir.He also is a beauty in the air.

Fisher was great at the end of last year. Really gave our forward line another dimension. However doesn't anyone else question his official height of 192cm? He's seems to me to be a few centimetres smaller than that.. around 189-188 maybe.

He looks shorter Andain, particularly on TV.

However, stand him next to Kouta and he is in fact TALLER though obviously a fair bit skinnier.

It's just that he has quite short legs for a guy his height. Deceptive.

Big fan of the Fish myself - I rate him over Waite actually, simply because he can take the contested mark. Mind you, Waite isn't a bad mark one-on-one either.

Field kicking is his one main weakness.

Bravo Mick...i think Longmuir is dealt with harshly on this board. I hope we get to see a fit Longmuir given opportuities this year.

Problem with Longmuir is he is 'lightweight' he is pretty mercurial on his day...but offers nothing when we dont have the ball.
He is the cherry on the cake.. but the problem is our cake is half baked ...


Fish is a very exciting talent.
Best mark at teh club and offers something different to our forward line... a player who can 'catch' the ball in contested situations.

Fish has been a great find through murky waters, and clearly our best mark at the club.

He is still painfully thin though and seems like one of those guys that will never really get too big...We need to strengthen his legs to help with his penetration, the timing will improve.

Fish has been my man since his first game - and the kid wears his number on his back - or did til his jumper got nicked.

Longmuir is one of those blokes who sticks his hands in the pack for a ball rather than stick his body in - I hate that in a player.

Big call, Frank. I think we all love Fisher and what he offers. And I think most of us still bear a grudge against Sammy, but he was a terrific player (and still is, when he actually gets on the field). Got to love Hamill's agression, even if it's cutting his career short. He seems to have lost his leap, but when he was starting out, he could really jump straight up (just been watching the 97 Preseason Grand Final again).

I reckon they're pretty different kinds of players actually. Hamill plays like a short power forward. Whereas Fisher plays like a tall floater. If Fisher can end up anywhere near as effective as Hamill (playing in his own style of course), then I reckon we'd be pretty satisfied.

Dont love anything at all about this arsewipe - hope his career is cut short by about 9 years. :evil:

Its all about Carlton's future now and moving forward - we will move forward with Brad Fisher thanks. :wink:

Longmuir must feel dudded coming to club that already has this guy as a medium forward.
