Given there is talk that if a player was rejected by an AFL club the odds are stacked against them making it at another AFL, it left me thinking "Who is my all-time favourite reject". The 1995 GF team alone had a plethora of folk from other clubs: Williams, Spalding, Rice, Clape, Madden, Pearce, Manton, Hogg. I think my vote goes to The Duke, though I also had a soft spot for Heaver. And close behind, in third spot: HICKMOTT!! |

Spalding is a long way ahead I reckon. Manton was handy. Dean Rice was the icing on the backline cake at the time. Ron Barassi and Greg Williams weren't too shabby, but they weren't rejects in the true sense of the word. |

Hogg was a great pick up - an absolute terrier. A Footscray supporting mate of mine was shattered when they let him go. Trent Hotton did ok. I too had a soft spot for Heaver, and Mark Arceri before him. Love the crumbing forwards. |

I still remember Rice's first game like it was last week. It was a night game. I was listening to 3LO. I think we had central heating at that stage and I wasn't under the doona...but I may have been. Rice, Hogg, Hickmott = Guts guts guts. |

Barassi and Williams wernt rejects... either was Perovic and Wells...they wernt even re treaders cos we stole them at the height of their careers, Thats like when i say trading for qulaity.. and not rubbish!!! All those rejects you have mentioned have done well in a club already chocka block with established homegrown stars. My 2 favourites were Hicky and Rice. |

Williams falls into the "Foreign Legion" and/or "Re-tread" category, even if he started on our list. According to Williams, he was on $45,000 at Geelong and Sydney offered him $100,000. Williams told Geelong he'd stay if they paid him $50,000 and they refused to accommodate him. ![]() |

Far far away from Saddington ...McLaren...Chambers... McKernan...Davenport.. and anyo0ne else we have acquired legally or not legally. One of the ten greatest footballers of all time. He could skin an opposition team a hundred and one ways on the footy field ... even if he was fat short and slow..with bad knees. |

Dean Rice played on the forward flank in his early time with the Blues and certainly through the 1995 season. It wasn't until 1996 or 1997 that he was moved to a more permanent position in the back line. |
