Post subject: | Ian Prendergast - 50 games and role in the team |
Congratulations must go to Ian Prendergast, who, after 7 years on our main and rookie lists, looks set to play his 50th game this weekend. Without wanting to jinx his selection, Mike & Dan had the chance to have a chat to him about the upcoming game and Ian's role in the team. Here are some extracts, with the main article available on carltonfc.com.au some time this evening......: It may have crept up on you, but it sure hasn’t crept up on “Prenders†|

My word it is Deano. And I'm sure we'd all have a friend in Mr Dardew in suggesting that most kids need the time to adapt and mature into AFL footballers. You get the odd Judd-like freaks that come along once or twice in a generation, but the rest need time. With our young list and a master craftsman at the helm I can see a nice masterpiece in creation, with plenty of silver lining. Have a rip snorter of a game Prenda, cheers mate! |

Its taken a while to come, but he has really grown over the last two years, so much so he is an important weapon in Pagans arsenal. Is it just me or is this another wonderful result we can put down to Pagan? |

Well done, Ian. I, like many of us, had our doubts about you earlier in the piece, but like Caz said, you have exceeded all of our expectations by becoming a regular in the seniors by playing good football. Hopefully you keep it up and are rewarded with a day premiership in the not too distant future. You deserve it. |

Just to throw a spanner in the works... is Prenders on the way out? In the Wiz, he received less game time as the competition wore on. IN the final, I'm pretty sure he really only played a quarter or so. What is the future for Prenders? |

I've been an unabashed Prenda fan since his debut game against hawthorn 2001 (Dixon goal after the siren). He had a broken thumb during the game that needed to be put back in place at Royal melb hospital and then returned to play in the 2nd half and took a few strong marks and attacked the ball and Hawks hard. I thought this guy really wants to play AFL. His development has been slow and he still has limitations but he is the ultimate team player. Does what is asked of him to the maximum of his capabalities. |

Interesting comments, Vacant. I don't think he is on the way out. Granted he is not the most skillful player on our list or in the AFL, but a bloke who is 194cm and can go all day is a valuable player to any side. Without him, who would we have to match up on Adam Goodes or players of his athletic equal? |

And if Prenders only gets a quarter in a game, then the question is why? Is it matchups, injury, or is Prenders just a limited player now given the list? ps we can't keep a guy on a list to cover one opponent, can we? : ) |

Like any other fringe player Prenda must demand more game time with more consistent and improved performances. That said, I love the boy and he has really just needed time to fully develop his skills and decision making. A good lesson for those getting anxious about Setanta. Go Prenda - bop a few heads for us on Saturday. |

Pagan was just saving him for that game breaker goal in the final. Pagan knows what he is doing ? ![]() |

Post subject: | Go Prenda |
Never been a star and never will be but has a great work ethic and has been a real workhorse since he came down as a skinny slightly unco kid in 1999.Could have dropped his bundle when put back on rookie list and after a plethora of injuries in his early years but soldiered on. Always been a fan and a great result to get to 50 games given he was no 58 in the draft and camelboy there were more than a few ready to exterminate after a couple of years 1998 draft was fairly kind given it produced Fevola and prenda even though Vance wasnt a great selection Whilst he sometimes takes a belting I think Wayne Brittain was the making of Prenda This is a win for the good guys and shows perserverance and belief in oneself can carry you a long way |

Well done Prenda, one of my favourite players at the Blues purely for the determination and persistence he has shown over the years. |

It was good to see him take a few contested marks, and almost take a few more in the Wizard Cup. If he can begin to genuinely compete as a key position player, then it would make him even more valuable for the team. |
