Apparently we've got a top-ten draft pick from South Australia who's a good height, has speed and can kick with both feet.

But you know what's really good? We're not talking about him. No-one's factored him into their pre-season discussions. No-one's clamouring for him to be named early to get some games into him. He doesn't have a bandwagon.

Jordan, it seems, can be left alone to work on his game in the VFL. Build his body and his skills, along with his mate Hartlett - a 195cm 2nd Rounder who can kick a mile and isn't getting talked up much either.

Compare this to last year when AW was our great white hope. Compare it to two years ago when guys like Fish (picked in the 70's) were rushed into the team.

It can only be good for Russell and his mates to come into a club that isn't throwing them to the wolves. Not like those poor bastards who got drafted by Richmond, they'll have to play most of the year, because the Tigers just don't have any options.

Life is good, and getting better.

Another astute observation John. Hopefully we'll now feel we have the luxury to allow our kids at least some time to develop before we demand starring roles every week.

And the Batson.

mind you hartless can kick a mile

and Russell is a good height.

How many bandwagons can I have?

My butt is firmly planted on the first seat on the Anthony Raso bandwagon.

Took the words right out of my mouth John - have been thinking about this for a while.

How good is it that we now have the luxury of not having to throw kids to the lions, like we had to do with Livo, Thornton, Fish, Norman etc. It's a really good indicator of how well we are ATM.

There are 2 players I'm looking forward to: Anthony Raso and Jesse D Smith.

The name Jesse D Smith is just one of those cult names you expect to hear about in mafia circles:

"You don' wanna Jesse D to find you lemme tell ya that sunshine!"...

I hope Denis coaches until he's 65, and gets another 2 premierships to add to his roos collection. I think he'd have to go down next to Leigh Matthews then as one of the best coaches of the modern era.

and even though we probably wont apart from Chambers have anyone in the first round debut for Carlton we still will have one of the youngest teams on the park with hopefully walker livo sporn wiggins waite davies carrazzo all playing
Very different to 2 years ago and much more stable environment and greater competition for spots and young players not thrown to the wolves

I was dissapointed we didnt get to see a bit of Russell in the wizard cup, has played SANFL and being a top ten pick i thought he might have a got some minutes. The so called poor bastards at Richmond in Deledio and Tambling wont mind playing seniors and will do well...I'm all for playing kids and giving them a taste of the action providing they have the maturity in both body and mind to play.

I think there a few supporters who are following Jessie D Smith's future and think he can play senior footy at some stage...there is a spot for a inside midfielder when Kouta gives it away and Jessie Smith might be the man..both he and Adam Bentick might end up competing for the position

And by all reports, T-Lo did alright on the weekend for the Ants.

Adds another dimension to our forward line.
And another bloke who can take a strong grab in the air and kick nice left foot goals.
Can't wait until he runs out for the Blues.

T-Lo, let's go!

I thought Collingwood drafted Jordan Russell? Remember... they had pick 7 and really wanted him.. and we had pick 9..

I think it's fantastic enough that our list balance has been restored, such that we have a pod of juniors coming through the ranks again. Although people loved the retreads, of which many have now moved on, VFL footy for me should be about which youngsters are showing it - and not which retreads may get a game this week.

Russell, Raso, Hartlett, Betts... they each bring something new but importantly are all pretty skilful, something we'll need to add to the grunt that we clearly now have.

ps the only reason I added the other players is becuase this thread isn't about Jordan Russell.
