i just read that melbourne got a payout from the afl of 1 million dollars as a result of the equalisation fund.

Does anyone know what are the advantages and disadvantages for Carlton getting on board that scheme?

I know Ian Collins is against it because you have to cut your salary cap to 93%, don't you?

What sort of money does Carlton receive from the AFL... ?

The 93% wouldn't be such a bad thing this year as our list is probably only worthy of being paid 80% of the total cap anyway.

You could kiss CFC good bye.
This is what the AFL have been wanting us to do.
Wake up people, the commission will not just give us money for nothing and more importantly will demand a lot more from us because of who we are.

So SurreyBlue, do you have a rough guestimate of how much money we receive from the AFL compared to other clubs>?

once you consider equalisation and all the other payments.

Are North on the equalisation thingy?

Melbourne, Kangaroos and Bulldogs are currently the three clubs receiving money.

The catch is the AFL control what you spend, where you spend it and how you spend it.

The club has publically stated that at this point in time they have no intention of applying for equalisation funds. Unless the financial results are poorer than planned for under the current financial plan it doesn't look like we will be applying.

Once you are on the list of clubs receiving money you are also on the list of candiates for relocation. I do not think mergers are on the cards - but relocation for sure. Expect the first "weak" Melbourne club to be moved within 3-5 years.

Would that mean we dont spend huge amounts on duds???
If so im all for it..

There is no catch... really..

Not when you have the worst list in the AFL coupled with the biggest debt.
Its not like we should want to pay 100% of the TPP.

There is no requirement to restrict your TPP to 93%.
The AFL expect clubs recieving the CBF to operate to a responsible business plan.
The CBF is as much about "compensation" as it is restoration.
If the Bulldogs want to spend 98% of their TPP, they are fully entitled to.

so if i am right - the benefits are:

1) spend less money on hacks and over the hill players.

2) reduce debt

3) get money back from the AFL that they took from Carlton -
1 million plus would do very nicely thank-you.

The disadvantages are:

1) PR - it makes us look like a basket case.

While we are on the topic of money - back in the 60's a group of RICHER CARLTON supporters got together and

ensured the future of the club by putting the money together to recruit Barassi.

Why in hell aren't the richer Carlton supporters - the Richard Pratt's of this world - not putting money into the club.

What would $100,000 each mean to them when they are worth 50 million plus?

I'm pretty sure that happened a couple of years ago when we announced the mega-loss ...

surely the club needs to turn things around into a self-sustaining business rather than rely on the generosity of a certain few. It's nice to have the security there if needed but I feel it's what our board have been using as a security blanket for too long now, letting the Essendons, West Coasts and Adelaides leaving us trailing behind.

"ALL" bar 1 contract has been signed off by Collo and his team.
Talk of us over spending on player contracts should now hopefully become a non issue. What we pay for our players is market value designed by COLLO, or atleast that is what we hoped, isn't Synbad.

thats why im hoping you can give the club sdome pointers surrey.
Youre pretty astute and when i think of Surrey i think 'lateral thinkers'.
the problem with the club is too many people associated with it remember when we were champions and are unable to move into the times.. (where were now at).
Regardless of whether collo can turn it around or not.. Elliot put us there.

You know???
"We dont rebuild "
"Fewk the AFL"
"Princes Park forever"

And all that complacent rubbish that does nothing to help evolve the club into its modern day environment.

Re Richard Pratt and rich friends..

Dont look at them to help the club out.
As ive often said.. rich people are rich because they dont spend money on things that dont give them a return.
they certainly dont invest in a club when its down.. they will all come out of the woodwork again.. sucking on their chardonneys and munching on their prawn sandwiches telling you how much they love the club when its succesful again...

They dont put their names to losers....

So wipe them off your list... as they will conduct a club money spinner.. all the money they will collect though will go to the catering companies and the ice sculptor.

Fair weather friends...

As a matter of fact if you ever get a chance to talk to some of them.. they will spin you out with their complete lack of knowledge of footy and the club...

I agree with you that we shouldnt be relying on rich benefactors to keep Carlton afloat. The club should always be owned and supported by the masses rather than a few.

However my understanding is that Richard Pratt has put a lot of money into the club in the past. And given his current troubles with the ACCC collusion court case he's probably got other things on his mind at the moment.

Maybe this action by the ACCC and Graeme Samuel (previous AFL commisioner) against Richard Pratt is another way for the AFL to screw us. By keeping Pratt tied up in court he gets distracted from handing his money over to our club!

Fair points made here.

Well what about past players then who were on big buckies?

Let's say they all chipped in $1,000- $2,000 each then the club would be in a far better state.

Bradley's name isn't even on the Carlton Foundation list... how much did he get from Carlton - 1.5 million at least and he can't spare $1000?

what about andrew mckay - another player i respected... but surely with all his money as a vet on top of footy money he can spare $1000?

Still playing the man and not the subject and looking in the rear view mirror. Will people ever grow and mature. Do you even support Carlton? I doubt it, I think your a closet StKilda supporter, everything you say and do points to their culture.

Surrey... you might think that but everything you point to doesnt have a point.. you make pointless points.. which is rather hard to do.....but not for you...
