As my avatar suggests, I'm a fan of AB.

Watching some of the games he's played, I can't help but see an uncanny resemblance in playing style with Greg Williams.

Bentick's game against Collingwood was a pearler, where he showed great vision and imagination. His passing by hand and foot were exceptional, and always found someone in the best position for our team.

Even his debut against Fremantle in 2004 was notable for his poise under pressure.

A fair comparison, or just a load of JW bollocks?

As you say, a bit early for the "good as" bit. Just the playing style at this stage.

yep... but what made Diesel really special was vision and disposal. I haven't noticed Bentick being amazingly gifted at these... though not being a slouch either.

Don't forget, Diesel wasn't even as good as Diesel early in his career.

Williams had the best disposal by hand and foot you can ever wish to see.. at times it was breathtaking.
One of the best footballers that has ever played the game.. if Adam turns out half as good we have a real star!!!

AB's quietly but tenaciously improving in all areas and that's all we can ask for atm....long long long way to go before any comparisons with the deisel.

Love your avatar JW...I think it's the only one on TC that features Williams, which is a bit of a surprise.

As others have said, if AB turns out to be half the player Williams was, we have one hell of an onballer. The guy just used to own OO.

Funny you should say that because they went to St Bernards together. Played for Calder together. Close friends. Both very competitive. Both leaders.

Bentick's come a long way. Remember he had to work hard to get on to the rookie list, then he had to work twice as hard to get on to the senior list. Grew up a Carlton supporter. Has worked very hard at his running and trying to improve his speed. Also, if you watch closely, has become more offensive since his recall in the midseason. Isn't content just to tag and obviously realises in today's footy that tagging alone won't carve you a career.

Has excellent vision and is better by hand than foot. Watched him shoot for goal (set shots) after practice last week. If he needs to work on something now, it's to gain additional penetration in his kicking. Tends to spray them a little when going for that extra yardage. The other thing is, he was unknown last year to the opposition. That Collingwood game, in which he disposed of Licuria, Holland and then Ben Davies will bring him to the notice of others. They will plan to run off him so let's hope he hurts them when they do.

That's not his fault that is David Parkins fault.

While there is a fair bit of Diesel in Benchy at the moment, there is also a fair bit of Brett Ratten. Neither Diesel nor Ratts were gifted with huge quantities of pace, which describes Benchy (also he is working HARD at that) pretty well.
Both Ratten and Diesel had good disposal, especially by hand. Benchy is improving in this area.

Benchy has more of a defensive side than Diesel, more like the early Ratten. I hope he works on this, as this is a skill that is most useful in the centre square. His extraction work is improving, as well.

Hopefully, he will make a real impact in the 2006 season.

I just hope he makes the grade and becomes a good player for us, which I'm not convinced of yet.

Needs to suffer second year blues then be embroiled in lengthy and heated debates in which some want to crucify/trade/sack him, whereas others believe he needs more time/he tries his guts out/he trains hard.

I think he will be 100% better than Prenders and Wiggo for whom Golgotha surely awaits.

Greg Williams was a once in a lifetime footballer. Will be a longtime before we get another one.But Adam goes about his work in that unubtrusive manner, not unlike the Diesel.Agree with The Big Sinner,if he turns out half as good,i will be more than happy.

Tend to disagree...Greg Williams at Geelong early was more than a fair player and had me wanting to strangle David Parkin for giving him the flick..he was amassing possies in big numbers and Tommy Hafey and Dr Edleston didnt have to think too long about offering a gig in Sydney where he dominated on the small SCG and made players like Healy and Carroll look twice as good as they really were.....I think he got smarter as he slowed up and used handball more but he was a gun early days as well....they talk about Lance having a football brain but G Williams had him covered and some more....fantastic footballer...interesting how he would have been viewed today as he would hardly be a draft camp hero and would have tested poorly I imagine.....if Adam Bentick is half as good he will have a few best and fairests in the cupboard by the time his career ends...

Yeah I'm pretty sure I heard Williams won a best and fairest at Geelong but I'm not sure it is true.:?

I don't really see any similarities between the 2 except they both like to get in and under. Bentick's disposable has been ok but Williams had the best I've ever seen.
