CARLTON: What will life be like as the hunted?

Like his St Kilda coaching counterpart, Denis Pagan eats pressure for breakfast, but having set the standard during pre-season quality performances need to follow.

We saw Carlton's A-game in the pre-season "Fevolution": the forward line at its stunning best, the midfield up and running, the kids on fire.

It is unrealistic to expect that output for anywhere close to 22 games, even if the depth is improving and Brendan Fevola looks like finally becoming a Coleman Medal candidate.

Andrew Walker, Jarrad Waite, Justin Davies, Kade Simpson and Bret Thornton will form the nucleus of the side in three years from now, but right now much depends on the Whitnall-Fevola partnership rolling on.

PREMIERSHIP CLOCK: 8 o'clock. It was 3 o'clock a year ago -- Pagan truly is a marvel.

They have Essendon* at 9 oclock... should be about 5, maybe 6 if you ask me. Malthouse is talking up collingwood, saying they are at 9 too, but the scribes put them at 3. They have got something right there.
