Post subject: | Fevola........Whats the go ? |
Got along to my first training yesterday for the 06 season. Its very difficult to watch every player,so generally focus on about a dozen at each session i attend. One of the blokes on my list yesterday was Fev.Kept a good eye on Fev given his groin problem.First up i gotta say, shithouse hair.Do yourself a favour Fev and give that red tone the lemonade and sarse pronto.Yuk!!!!!! OK Fev was on the Gardiner stand doing run throughs with Waite and Kennedy.By the way,Waite looked really strong and fit.Unsure of his problem. And Kennedy is a beautifull strider and is very fluent. At least we know he can run which could be handy for a bloke that height.Shit,i keep getting sidetracked dont i.Back to Fev. The distance would have been about 120 metres. They just seemed to one run after another.Just seemed like it was never going to stop.On and on and on.The thing is,although he was labouring badly,Fev hung on.And great credit to him.Must have been exhausted but dug deep and stuck. BUT.........But let me state i am no fitness guru or medico, but what the bloody hell was he pushed so hard. The bloke has come off a notoriously tricky groin operation.I thought they had to be handle with kid gloves.Even more disturbing to me was he was clearly not right. In racing terms he was not in his gait. For mine he was clearly restricted in his movements and not only is he not right, but a long way from being right. It was very wet and extremely slippery at PP so he may have been holding himself back deliberatly. To all the regular track watchers,am i being overly alarmed and panicky and everything is ok.Or is his injury more serious than we are led to believe. |

Well Mickstar the difference between my prediction of finishing eighth and bottom 4 again was Fev. My confidence in the higher finish is about to hit rock bottom ![]() |

They do need to get him fit you know! So long as he's running straight lines, I wouldn't be too concerned. Let's leave his rehab program to the experts can we?! |

Are these the same experts that let him play on last season when he clearly not right ? |

exactly. Or are the same incompetences happening again this pre-season. A player clearly hampered by injury but a distinct lack of communication between player and medico/coaching staff not identifying this and allowing further damage to occur... Time will tell i suppose, but I still recall the frustration I felt seeing Fev out on the park last season when it was so obvious he had a groin injury. If I could see it in the stands for pete's sake why didn't the club!!??!! ![]() |

Theres a big difference between running injured and running on recovery. Fevola is on a high-impact high-focus running recovery program to get him back into full fitness asap. This is why he is running so much, in an attempt to get him ready for the start of the season. |

As anyone who has a had a groin injury will tell you, running in a straight line is not a problem. It's the sideways movements that are restricted. Prior to the xmas break, Carlos, who was coming off a groin strain, spent nearly all the training sessions at Caulfield Grammar running in straight lines. |

I remember playing soccer with a groin strain for a couple of game. Some minor discomfort running straight but when having to turn... OUCH |

Hey,jbee, dont jump down my throat pal.I asked a civil question and am entitled to a civil answer. As far as putting faith in our current medicos in light of there shambles with Fev in the past, you must be kidding. There may have been mitigating circumstances considering the wet and slippery surface, but i repeat,he did not look right by a long shot. Thanks to all you other guys for allaying my fears RE running in straight lines. And as you point out, there was no twisting and turning. After gaining that info,i feel less panicky. But ya gotta admit guys, you cannot be too carefull. |

There were a few people ar0und the club who wernt happy wioth Fev late last year and out of stupidity made a wrong decision. Fev is as close to a star as we have.. and no stone should have been left unturned to have him right for 2006.. instead of trying to trade him. |

No doubt you hace caught Fev on the track Synbad. How did he look to you ? Do you think the wet track made it look worse than what it seemed ? Do you think his recovery is on track ? Agree with regard to handle with care. Not saying we should wrap him in cotton wool but i think we should err on the side of caution. Also Syn,ya gotta admit,Lance looks very fine.Too light for mine. |

Kicking is really bad for your groing, especially Fevs style (slanted like me). I have a bad right groing which hampered me all year in 05..They really suck. |

Just to clear that one up alittle Racofi, Fev was the one who kept telling the medical staff he was alright. I know they can over-ride him but he still told them he was good enough to play and get through the game. Regards Cazzesman |

Regards Cazzesman Come on Caz I remember Sticks told the medicos he was ok to play when he fractured his arm. It was clear to all Fev wasn't fit, the club f$%^ up and are totaly to blame. |

I gave you a civil response. We hardly had a soft tissue injury for 2005, our medicos and as Grant Thomas calls them "training services staff" did a great job. In fact I would be prepared to say that we had the best run in the competition as far as soft tissue injuries were concerned. 9.5 out of 10 from me. |

Fevola says he will be smarter and not play hurt Quote: "And on match day, it was a few pain-killers and that sort of got me through but I sort of struggled out there. I couldn't run to full potential. I thought I'd keep playing but obviously it was the wrong decision because I didn't play very well.
"Hopefully if that comes up again, I'll be smarter and not play and miss, but I was just pretty keen to get out there and play. I'd just signed a three-year deal, so I didn't want to let the club down and not play after signing a new deal." |

"enough said'.................civil or not,its a putdown. Agree that our injury run last year was fantastic, and as such, the medico's deserve credit. But the Fev bizzo was a fiasco.Fev may not have helped matters. But the bottom line is,they are ultimaly responsable and they blew it.Sometimes ya gotta take the bull by the horns and say enough is enough no matter how high the profile of the player concerned. It was obvious to everyone, whether they were front row or top deck of the Ponsford stand that Fev was ratshit. What was the piont of him playing ? Where was he gonna take us ? He should of been grounded then and there and straight in for the operation so he would be ready to go from day one. Anyhow jbee, obviously i was a bit panicky, and Fev is on track and everything is going to schedule. That is the main thing.Catch ya around the traps pal. |

Sorry jbee...I read it as a bit of a criticism as well...but I also have to disagree with mick...not everybody saw that Fev wasn't right. a lot of people on the fan sites criticised Fev for his attitude...and others applauded him for his running efforts...so I guess we needed to meet in the middle .... And not being an expert in these matters...*("what!" "You are joking, aren't you?" "No, seriously!" "Well, I never!") but I didn't notice too much wrong with Fev on the training track. Sure, he wasn't running full pelt, but does he ever? I think the blame lays equally between the club and the player. That is something that needs to be addressed. |
