Post subject:  - The Sleeping Giant awakes - part 2

This was the headline in one of the papers in 1992 when after being in the widerness for a number of years we started making advances as a team and this team whilst perhaps not as talented as the 1992 it has shades of the 1992 team about it in that the wizzer cup of 2005 is also about being the re-birth of the blues and heading to its rightful place on the ladder up near the top.
Interestingly in 1991 and 1992 we recruited a number of players from other clubs some like spalding williams who became carlton greats whereas others athorn etc didnt quite make it.Not too dissimilar to the last few years with our new foreign legion eg scotland and stevens so the comparison but now and then is even more apposite
In 1992 the foreign legion supplemented a few guns and a number of developing young players - guns kernahan bradley silvagni - young talent kouta ratten and brown

2004-2005 foreign legion supplementing kouta whitnall and camporeale - young talent plenty but fevola houlihan and sporn to name a few

In 1992 we had a two pronged forward line with sticks and spalding and mnow we have a similar two pronged forward line with fev and whitnall
In 1991 we got an absolute gun in greg williams and in 2004 we got Nick stevens another gun midfielder whilst nick stevens isnt as good as williams- but hey who is

As you will know we came 7th in 1992 although we missed the finals because there was only a top 6 in that year but of course went on to play gf in 1993 - hopefully 2005 is like 1992 and ushers in a new golden era for the navy blues and whilst we should always shot for the stars history suggest that in 2005 we will end up 7th
