Post subject: | Fevola Full Back? |
Any takers here. Fevola has been good but not outstanding at full forward It may bring the best out of him in terms of discipline After the first @#$%&! up and the following McGrath incident he did well on Lloyd. We lack strength down back His kicking into the forward area has the potential to be damaging We already have Waite,Fisher,Betts possibly Whitnall and maybe a few others who can do the job in attack. When Fevola was absent or had minimal impact later in the year I thought the forward line operated well particularly when Fisher returned Some posters will dismiss this as another useless waste of time, but i think its worth a shot and maybe the making of Fevola or possibly has no merit because the guy is incapable of being a team player. |

If I was Pagan I'd be telling Fev pre-season he'll be playing at both ends of the ground as the team needs him. Talk the prospect up to him and he may apply himself. |

If you want someone to break Fred Fannings record then it's a great idea. |

Not as silly as it sounds. Why should we not have players capable of playing either end of the ground so that in the event of an opponent having a great day, we can make a move to try to get maximum value out of the team. If Fevola is dropping his marks one day, then why not send him back, use his ability to read the ball to at least fist it away. His field kicking is good, use him to set up play from HB or FB. Versatility has long been a Carlton problem - we had players who couldn't play as HBF and could only play midfield because their overhead ability was terrible etc. He doesn't have to line up there too often, but tell him that he doesn't need to kick heaps of goals in order to contribute. It will also teach him to be accountable and make defensive efforts. Currently, if he's having a bad day, we're down to 17 players on the field because he drops his head and doesn't contribute. That's not good enough |

We have one of the AFL's best fullforwards playing in our team, and we want to play him at fullback....hmm. NO! |

Sorry but I think that is probably one of the more ridiculous theories I have seen posted. God we use Fev as a scapegoat...the bloke has kicked over 170 goals in 3 seasons in the worst team in the comp. As a forward he leads to the ball incredibly naturally and when he is on song there are not too many better kick for goals in the comp. I think every team needs a player who can convert from outside 50 and I'm sorry but Whittas days of doing that are over, Fish is no chance and Waite is 50/50 at best. You don't need players who can play at both ends if it ruins their natural game. Nothing annoys me more than when we push Waite back and see him get led a merry dance. As with Fev they are both natural forwards so leave them in there best spots and use this funny word recruitment to find defenders |

it seems like we've got about 8 guys who are genuine forwards and about two backmen, I understand the motive to use what we've got to fill that hole but i'd say we'd be better served leaving our most talented forward in the forward line. I'd prefer to see Bryan working towards becoming CHB allowing thornton to go to FB |

Reminds me of when they played Southby at FF for a few games in the 70's. Didn't like it and it didn't last long. |

Do you see Barry Hall playing full Back? Do you see Warren Tredrea playing fullback? Do you see Alistair Lynch playing fullback at Brisbane? Do you see Matthew Llyold playing full back? NO!! |

I saw Fraser Gehrig play fullback in the preliminary final, but for Fev it's full forward or bust. |

The Saints didn't win and Thomas copped it from all corners. Can't win a game when your match winner is playing the opposite end. |

I didn't he say did well down back and the suggestion of putting our best matchwinner down back is ridiculous.Unless he's thinking outside the square and wants to guarantee the first priority pick in the superdraft. Then by all means put Fev in the backline. ![]() |

Actually Fraser Gehrig once did often play full back a few years ago. He played there on Kouta in a game in 2001. Barry Hall was their FF in those days. SOS used to occasionally switch from FB to FF. |

I reckon Waitey is a better option back there... Desperation, agro, height, pace, long limbs.. Could end up like a Dustin Fletcher type... only not as skinny or dog-ish or wankerish... |

Nah, I'd play Fev leading out of the square. If he's not getting a kick then drop Fish, Carlos or Kouta in the square and move him upfield as a mobile forward. |
