I was thinking about the future of Chris Bryan and would like to read other posters thoughts on it. With Archie fully fit does Chris get a ruck or forward role before him and where does it leave Carlos?

I was trying to think of a player Chris Bryan reminded me of and it came to me - Jon Dorotich. Could he be a Jon Dorotich type who could pinch hit up forward and down back and was tried in the ruck but not really a success there? Both are big strong long kicking players who don't mind mixing it up and aren't afraid to throw their weight around. Depending upon the opposition would play up forward or down back.

Although not sure of the bears pace, he certainly has a bit of size, height and has a prodigious kick on him. I personally would love to see him tried on the half back line ala Perovic, Ang and Doro, and have him roost the ball deep into the forward line on occasion. We need to try something in the backline as height wise we are pretty bloody short in that area. He could even help out around the defense with the throw ins and around the ground ruck work. This would free up French, Kouta, and Deluca to play between the centre of the ground and the forward line.

It would be great if Bryan finds a regular spot, the Half Back may well be the place for him.
I do like the way he fights for the ball when it's hit the ground.
I worry about Archie though, I'm hoping it was simply injuries that held him back last season. he really needs to step up and make his presence felt.

Fair enough DB but i'd rather you give us your reasons for the above statement so that we can judge your argument on its merits.

There are clearly some of us who feel that we would like to discuss it though and I'm sure that we would all welcome your considered thoughts and reasons.

Plenty of supporters keen for Chris Bryan to make it into a key position player but he isnt mobile enough for mine and needs to get fitter.
He does his best work as a follower..notice I said follower not ruckman, he knows how to get the footy and will always be a better possesion winner than someone like Deluca who is a mark and kick player only.

Trouble with Chris Bryan is his ruckwork...very much a novice and at 197cm doesnt have the height to be threat to the taller players. His only hope is using his body and becoming a push and shove ruckman and that has become harder with the ruck rules as they stand.

Deluca does his best work forward especially when Fevola and Whitnall are drawing the better defenders and he gets a size mismatch against a weaker player. He is a reasonably smart player when playing forward and a good converter when he does take a mark near the goals...ruck wise he isnt physical enough for mine and makes Bryan look experienced...

Its a difficult situation...French is the best tap ruckman but does nothing around the ground, Bryan is the best around the ground player but isnt good enough in the ruck and Deluca's best work is done forward and is better on the bench if not played forward.

Chris Bryan needs to get his ruckwork up to scratch or he might find himself dwelling in the Bullants and off the list after next season...I think he has ability but is maybe letting his great kicking do all the talking for him and needs to smarten up in other areas..the crowd egging him on everytime to thump the ball doenst help either and he delivers his fair share of clangars.....I hope he doesnt become a novelty just for his kicking only because that will end his career,

Like Bryan as either a back flanker or forward flanker/pocket, at least he can take a grab unlike Deluca.
Now before all you Deluca fans start going on about his injuries this year, I think you'll find that "butter fingerness" is not an ACTUAL injury term.

Bryan drops as many marks as DeLuca.
Neither of them have good hands.
