Quote: Carlton Football Club Thursday Update
27 October 2005 The good news out of Optus Oval this afternoon was the confirmation that David Teague and Adam Bentick have both agreed to continue their careers with the Carlton Football Club. Both have been seen running around Princes Park in recent weeks and with the formalities completed both will be here next Friday morning (November 4th) for the start of pre-Christmas training in preparation for the 2006 season. |

That's very good news. The addition of Saddington to the defense will ease the pressure off Teague next year and I reckon he will hit back after an ordinary year this year where he was badly mismatched a few times which probably sapped his confidence. AB has got the "eye of the tiger". Look out opposition. ![]() |

AB does have the eye of the tiger and will succeed in AFL level! He will still play a few bad games here and there but stick with him. Was captain of Calder Cannons in there 2003 premiership season. He will be a leader of the CFC in the future! I see a bit of Jude Bolton in him. A tough, in and under player who will do what is right for the team, he isn’t the biggest bloke but has a strong mentality! |

One will help the other greatly. When our midfield are more accountable the pressure on our defence will be reduced and rather than worrying about picking up his own man and any stray midfielders popping up in attack Teague can get back to being 3rd man up and helping T-Bird and Livo out. |

Really couldnt understand why a guy like Teague would be hanging off signing up... He is struggling.. and he should concentrate on getting a kick |

One thing is for sure... None of these players would have approached a 40 year old Lofts for that kind of money.. We dont have anyone that can scare the shit out of them and get them to play football.. Theres the CEO. (Melbourne City Council). Grant Williams (AFL admin) and Sticks 'I wanna be everyones best mate' Kernahan... |

I wonder if Teague is an option up forward? There is no doubt he can take a contested mark - he could become a kamikaze forward in the Hickmott mould. Would need to work on his kicking. Defence may not work for him if Saddington, Thornton and Livingston are covering the talls. |

He is struggling.. and he should concentrate on getting a kick As I understand it he's actually just happy to be getting a contract, mid-year he held real concerns over his place in the side. |

Seriously Synbad, How many player managers were around when Wes Lofts was running the ship? There was no salary cap and he was negotiating contracts with blokes like Bruce Doull. Tough Gig. |

Teague is that close to being outdated as a footballer. He is sooo slow. That's the cancerous culture at Carlton in full effect - if a guy like Teague is holding off on contract negotiations. |

Defence may not work for him if Saddington, Thornton and Livingston are covering the talls. Agree 100% - been thinking about Teague as a fwd for a while now - I'd like to see it happen! |

I am not underestimating it. But these days you just can't go out and get Kernahan, Motley, Dorotich and Bradley to play for your club next year. Wes Lofts would have to learn a whole lot of new skills to be successful in todays football environment. The whole reason our club is in the position it is in is because we have failed to adapt to what is required to be successful in todays football environment. |

You said it yourself - it was a contract negotiation. Both parties trying to get the best outcome for both sides. That takes time. What is the basis for your comment that Teague's particular negotiation was 'cancerous' to the club? I'd like to know if you know anything about Teague's negotiations. |

WHile I'm an admirer of Teague, it's Bentick I'm excited about. Remember he's still very young, but he has Greg Williams like qualities about him, and I'm not just talking about his lack of pace!. His decision making under pressure is outstanding, and during the last game against Collingwood, he demonstrated what he's capable of achieving. |

I remember saying on TBV that Bentick would play 150 games. I hope he does. We need a 150 game inside midfielder. |
