"Defies belief that someone would do that at a non-public gathering."

Exactly.

About 90% of those who claim to have had their drinks spiked weren't spiked at all...(data from Drug agency that did a study on the matter - can't quote the exact study bit its about right.)

If not higher than 90% according to a doctor I was talking to on the weekend. Every Saturday night he's pumping stomachs...about 75% females, 25% males. He blames it on womens' lib, as females aren't physilogically capable of drinking as much as men, but they believe anything a man can do a woman can also do. He says Rohypnol is notoriously difficult to get hold of, and in most cases those who claim to have had their drinks spiked have infact just over-indulged. Was a fascinating conversation none-the-less.

Careful Verbs, this will be construed by CarltonClem as sexist.

I'm sure you read carefully and realised it's not my opinion bluebird. :-D

For what it's worth, a couple of years ago a friend of mine claimed he had his drink spiked, and it turned out that he was merely very drunk. One minute he was fine, had a very strong drink, and became violently ill. The only drug involved was alcohol, but because he got ill so quick he jumped to the conclusion that his drink was spiked. It wasn't though.

But you repeated the opinion in an attempt to add what to the thread? Some Andrew Bolt stylings?

I din't say I believed him, but nor am I just discounting it out of hand, especially after what my friend claimed.

Much better than a lot of the Stephen Glass journalism which goes on here endlessly.

Spiking drinks isn't just restricted to drugs, adding extra alcohol to someone's drink is spiking as well. Now I believe the symptoms of that would be getting very drunk, so to say that those who afterward thought their drink had been spiked were just very drunk doesn't discount the possibility.
