Post subject:  Hats off to Livo

Just thought that he played a slashing game on a huge man, with speed and mobility, and yet at the end, he was standing his ground and outmuscling Lynch. Best and most important game he's played for us. I don't even recall a disposal error.

I reckon Livo's a pet project of Pagan's.

All the more important now with T-Birds injury.

Yep, great game by Livo, dare I say it he may even live up to the high drafting.
Shocking news about T-bird though, Karl will have to step up.

Let me be the 1st to say that i was a Livo knocker, but his mark on the last line has changed me.

AND............................

If that was not enough.

When he came into the Sticks room and Harf was talking to him, he stoped talking and we all started chanting Livo.

He then reached into his pocket and pulled out his Wiz Cup GF medallion.
It only sent the crowed off a lil bit.

Looked reall excited to be holding that medal aloft for all to see.
Couldn't get the grin off of his face.

Congratulated him on his game as he was walking out.
Seemed to really appreciate it.

Good bloke is Livo.

Ok I'll say it then. Let's be honest people. After that game he should be called "Lucky Luke" because he was getting flogged by Lynch. It was only Lynch's butterfingers that stopped Livo from getting moved off him. Livo's body language tells me he is a "Spectator" and "Reactive" player who waits for his opponent to act first and once you're doing that you're dead in the water and we're playing with 17 on the field. He's giving a ton of free kicks away will continue to do so if he doesn't change. If you going to play full back at least try and stop the forward's run. Sometimes with the midfield open it can be hard for a backman but that's when the Livo should rip into his midfield and tell them to tighten up on the way back to make his job easier. But he wont. He is not even confident going in to get the ball, he'd rather let a team mate get it and just support with a shepherd. I'm not convinced at all.

Don't agree.
Now that he's actually injury free and fit Livo is improving and gaining confidence with every game. Lynch beat him for the 1st 15 minutes of the game but Livo beat him for the rest of the game. When the balls on the ground I've seen him on numerous occasions at the bottom of the pack and I reckon he's been a bit stiff with some of those free he's given away.

Lynch out bodied Livo on most occasions and he dropped to many marks. Livo did not impress me at all, his decision making under pressure is shocking he cant hit a target handballing or kicking he is just lucky that our game plan revolves around getting numbers back had it been a open foward line Teague and Livo would have had egg all over there faces.
Watch the replay it says it all.

Maybe the closed up forward line and lack of space for opposition is part of a game plan and maybe Livo et al are playing to the game plan.

It's just an idle thought.

1. Who wouldn't Lynch outbody 1 on 1?
2. If Lynch was so dominant, why did he only kick 3?
3. How many of Lynch's goals were because of Livo failure? Goal 2 was because of the failure of Livo, Thornton and Teague - how good was that goal?
4. If Worsfold thought Lynch was so dominant, why was he removed from the field?
5. If Livo is that shit, why are the press so positive about his game?

Look, you can hate Livo as much as you like, but please don't misrepresent what happened on Saturday night. Livo was beaten in a few one on ones but also won a few one on ones, and he ended up with a few goals on him. To say 'if it wasnt for the game plan he would have been killed' is to say that without the whole team Livo would be useless.... well, a full back can only do so much, and Livo almost did that on Saturday.

I'm sick of some suckers trying to deride a guy who has come a long way and is finally playing with confidence. mark my words, you will see more and more 1 on 1 victories as Livo hits his strides. Our team is that much better with Livo playing this well, it makes the whole back line structure work. And Livo has had a great Wizard Cup. No doubt about it.

Hasn't Livo had a few inury interupted pre-season's/seasons? If so, then one can see why he has struglgled on the field.

He has had an injury free pre-season, as far as I know, and this should hold him in good stead for the coming season. With Thornton out injured, Livo's importance has just risen.

When he first played for the Blues a few years ago, I thought he showed plenty of promise as a youngster. Then injuries struck, and downhill he went. Maybe if this year he remains injury, he could blossom and learn how to play full back. He'll be up against some good forwards that will teach him a thing or two.

Sing it sister!

Livo did unreal on Saturday night. This habit of supporters searching for negatives is well beyon my fragile understanding. We're having our most positive, optimistic month in three years, why can't we just enjoy the ride for a bit?

1. Who wouldn't Lynch outbody 1 on 1?
Mal Michael, Scarlett, Fletcher, Clement to name a few.

2. If Lynch was so dominant, why did he only kick 3?
because he dropped atleast 3 attempts and had a wall of navy blue jumpers infront of him

3. How many of Lynch's goals were because of Livo failure? Goal 2 was because of the failure of Livo, Thornton and Teague - how good was that goal?
it was a great goal, the first over the shoulder, he dropped 2 marks which he outbodied livo but they didnt stick and a dropped chest mark. And He should have got atleast 2 free kicks

4. If Worsfold thought Lynch was so dominant, why was he removed from the field?
he was dragged for not holding onto those marks as Wosha realised he had the better of livo but just could not take them.

5. If Livo is that shit, why are the press so positive about his game?
What press, we know livo better than any journalist. \

The jury is still out on Livo for me.

Clement?!?!?! You cannot be serious. Lynch will outbody all the players you've listed in a one on one.

2. If Lynch was so dominant, why did he only kick 3?
because he dropped atleast 3 attempts and had a wall of navy blue jumpers infront of him

The wall of navy blue jumpers is exactly what makes Mal Michael, Scarlett et al look good - a full back is only as good as the support he gets from his co-defenders and midfield. How many bottom four clubs have ever had a full back that looks good? Not @#$%&! many...

Were the dropped marks due to Lynch's lack of ability or Livo's pressure? Livo didn't give him an inch all night, maybe that's what gave Lynch the marking yips. And the two free kicks? Care to name them?

4. If Worsfold thought Lynch was so dominant, why was he removed from the field?

he was dragged for not holding onto those marks as Wosha realised he had the better of livo but just could not take them.

Players don't get dragged when they are dominating. When Lynch was dropping these marks, why wasn't he bringing them to ground to the advantage of his crumbers? Because Livo wasn't allowing it, that's why.

5. If Livo is that shit, why are the press so positive about his game?
What press, we know livo better than any journalist.

If Livo was getting the hiding you're trying to tell he was getting, why did Denis leave him there? If Livo was getting the belting you say he was, then put your arse on the line and call Denis out for not making the change. My guess is you won't be.

To the Livo knockers:

Answer this question:

What ways can a FB use to stop the forward getting marks and kicking goals?

I bet you'd go for the usual suspects; out-bodying, spoiling, forcing him to lead wide, taking a risk and playing off him and running the forward around.

But what's the most insidious way and one that everyone has failed to mention?

It's getting in the head of your opponent. Silvagni was great at that, he would never leave you, and many dropped marks were purely from the fact that the forward thought the FB was right on his hammer (even if the FB wasn't). It's called mental pressure - and it's one of the most valuable weapons a FB has at his disposal.

Lynch dropped some easy marks because he heard footsteps. Livo was pretty close all night and never allowed him an easy contest. That gets into the head of an opponent. And Lynch isn't mentally that strong - that's been known and I think even Eagles fans may admit that.

Only Mal Michael and Scarlett would have a chance at outbodying Lynch. Lynch is a seriously big kid.

Livo your a champion. Well he is my favorite player since Hulme left. Livo is a battler, he cant kick, although sometimes he can, he has fairly shit disposal, but jeez does he go in and does he do anything he can to stop his man from getting the ball.
He is currently playing smart footy, always looking for the handball to give off and when he kicks it he kicks it long to contests or the boundry. Agaisnt Melbourne the other week he stood up in defence when we needed someone to he cleared the ball 2 or 3 times in the last quarter. That mark vs Lynch was a ripper the other night he used his strentgh to out body Lynch and if you can do that you must be doing something right.
Livo is the Mick Martin of Carlton, Nothing Fancy but he is solid at his role in the team.
Also we dont need a team of champions, we need a champion team. Dennis is building this.

Livo is never going to be a champion. Livo is never going to be Stephen Silvagni. The quicker Carlton fans accept this the better it will be for everyone.

I was actually surprised the West Coast forwards kicked as many as they did. If you do actually watch the tapes you'll see that most of the shots at goal were from very tight angles. Our defenders did a really good job. They were smaller and weaker than the opposition yet they managed to force the opposition to kick goals from ridiculous angles. If they continue to do that all year we'll do very well this year.
