Captain of the greatest football club in the game's history...Has overcome knee operations to fight back to win this year's best and fairest. Leads the club in clearances.

Yet, let's look at your vice captains and leaders of the club immediately under you:

Campo - has even got to captain the team on occassion recently, paid $500K per year, has been with the team for 10 seasons and has been lucky enough to even hold the premiership cup in his first season - surely every kid's dream. Hopefully can set a wise example to our younger players coming into the fold. Sadly this is not enough for him, and he feels the club owes him even more, so he walks out of the club with his finger in the air.

Whitnall - Has a family bond with the club. Said to have the "great football brain" and therefore positively promoted by the club. Placed on long term contracts on huge money to do what he does easily. Sadly can never commit to the team by even getting into shape pre-season. Plays better when the media heat is applied to him. For the second year in a row the club has offered to draft him to minimal interest.

Lappin - Career saved by Carlton after being dumped by St Kilda. Regarded as too small and too skinny to become a key position player, but we throw him a lifeline and a generous package to play the game. Other kids never get this chance. Sure, he takes a pay cut to help the club but it's the same club who has treated him well over the years too. Sadly, he's now near the end of his footy life, but a age doesn't make Matty any wiser. He thinks he can play forever and deserves money...

Fevola - Oh...my...God... Well, I guess he played well in the Wizard Cup final, but nobody told Brendan that the season is a little longer than that. Needs an urgent dose of repect when it comes to dealing with the icons of the club's past, and needs to understand he isn't the first Carlton star we have seen... Sadly, also believes he is worth a better deal and wants to continue his outstanding television career. Er, just one question: exactly what job would Brendan be doing if Carlton hadn't offered him the gig?

Stevens - Must be shaking his head thinking "what the hell have I done?"... Hang in there, Nick.

Thankfully, our younger players are still learning their way and no doubt watching our senior list closely on how to behave when you are lucky enough to build a career wearing the navy blue jumper. Just pray they are not watching too closely...
