Post subject: | Parko on 95 team |
SEN this morning interviewed Parko in their 'coaches corner' segment. Aside from the expected Jonathon Hay cr@p and spider speculation, they spent less time than I expected on trades. Instead Parko revealed that the 95 team, their families and kids all went to Moama for a reunion last weekend. Parko was getting all gooey talking about it. Reckoned there was a good 10 future father sons in the mix going by the kids kick to kick at the park!!! Mentioned Diesel's boys. Wouldnt you have loved to be walking through the park in Moama and run into the 95 premiership team playing kick to kick!!!! Anyway they got to talking about 95 and I wont bore you with it all but he did make a comment that I thought was very relevant to our side at the moment. He spoke about the level of commitment to the group that the team of 95 showed and he said that the other team he has seen since then with that commitment was Sydney this year. he also went on to say that it is no coincidence that the better teams going around all seem to have this level of collective commitment. His quote on the subject was to: "go for character before talent" He spoke about the Sydney Geelong game and about players taking responsibility for their actions etc. Made some great examples etc. He spoke of how Peter Dean was the player's appointed rep to come and speak about their idea for collective responsibility at a training camp in Moama in the 95 pre-season. Great stuff and I wish we had more of it now!!! Finally he spoke about Sat night when the speeches were going around. He said he made one but that Sticks didn't.....or more rightly couldnt. He reckoned that Sticks might have sobered up enough by now possibly!!! Great story, and the character first message made me immediately think about some of the offloads we should be making right now!!! |

So Camporeale goes to the 95 reunion in Moama, talks about the good times and their collective love for the club ... and then returns to OO and decides to leave the club because he's not getting enough money! FFS - lets just complete the trade and get him out!!! |

Did Parkin have anything to say about the Camporeale situation??? It would be interesting getting his take on things as he was his coach during his best years at the club. |

Character over Talent was the key to what Parking said. Where have we heard this before? |

No Mention of Campo specifically. But he did make a general comment of trying to appreciate some of the older blokes moving on to have a final go at some success. This was more related to Spider but it was obvious that the comment was also an attempt to justify Campo's decision. Was interesting listening. Perhaps through the late 90's, Parko was too focussed on character with recruitments and let talent fall by the wayside!!! ![]() ![]() Will always have a lot of respect for Parko, regardless of what his legacy might've been towards to end... |

Did the club set this up for trade week to get Sticks out of the way? |

pffftt...... we have players with COMMITMENT Hey, what about Fatnall and Febola? They are committed to putting themselves above the team. Remember, a team of (wannabee) champions is much more fun to watch than a champion team! Isn't that our motto??! |

From memory he said that all of the players and their families went except for SOS. Apparently SOS's sister got married on the weekend and he had to go to the wedding instead. He also said that Damage (Hogg's) kids were just like their old man racing around crashing into things. Said that they had plastic swords and were getting about belting things with them. |
