I personally thought Norman should have missed and Johnson should have been included. Not sure though if this team is subject to change the article doesn't say anything but if you read the club website the feeling seem to be it still might change - subject to Kouta.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see but I think this will be pretty close to finalized.

That team in the paper was not official, and is wrong. Karl Norman and Brett Johnson have been dropped, and looks like Wiggins and Kouta are the inclusions. Just came back from the reserves game...

Criminal.

I feel for you, Johnno.
We are going to need all the midfield power we can get if we are to win tonight.

Yeah I feel sorry for Johno...played very well this morning, kicked 3 or 4 goals. Karl Norman was very disappointing...just didn't look interested all game. Very impressed with Jesse Smith, had over 20 possessions, Bentick and Setanta played well also.

Are you writing up a report on the game this morning cat? Did Blackwell play? How did Bryan, Batson and Pleming go?

On the team I think Johnson should have been included but I can see it was out of Wiggins and Johnson for the one spot. I think Wiggins is harder at the man than Johnson which might count tonight.

Very unlucky Johno.

Karl is no surprise to me. I didn't think he really warranted a spot at the moment, maybe a spell will do him good cause he certainly has talent.

EDIT: I see you posted almost exactly same time I did!

I will try to write up a report later today. Some quick points, Bryan did not do much, although some of his kicking was of a high standard. Betts kicked a couple without dominating, Bowyer once again played very well. I feel sorry for Bowyer, he has dominated the reserves 3 weeks in a row but just cannot crack a game in the seniors. Russell did not play today, must be injured. Hartlett did not get much of the ball, but laid a lot of tackles and spoils. Also, very impressed with Raso. He has a lot of talent, needs to put on weight, but I think he has what it takes.

i like the idea of norman getting dropped....denis maintaining the standard.

I do feel for johnson also.

It seems, that injuries aside, denis is signalling what he regards as his best starting 24.

Having said that it appears that despite the on-going discussion, Wiggins is in his best team.

Davies, Simmo and Carrazzo all showed good form on the ball last week, Johnson in my opinion needs to add more to his game to displace one of these three.

Due to our team's rebuilding and a few guys returning after some long injury lay offs there's likely to be quite a few blokes that we feel sorry for during this year. While disappointing on the one hand, it shows that every position has to be earned. Our forward line has been working pretty damn well so far during the Mickey Mouse Cup, yet I reckon plenty of us would have Fisher in our best 22, if not the starting 18. Who does he replace? Livo's position on the field seems to be at the expense of Karl Norman, who most would agree made some pretty decent progress in 2004.

It's bloody great seeing our fortunes turning around. Collo's ship must just about be pointing in the right direction I'd say! :D

The omission of Johnno is interesting. We really need an in-and-under to compete against fletcher. He is their Ratten. Apparently he was All-Australian in that role last year (according to media reports this week).

Kouta seems to be earmarked in that role. During Thursday's training, Whits and Elshaugh called him into a boundary throw-in simulation in which Whitnall was rucking. He was told to go front and centre. A sign of things to come I am sure.

If not Kouta, Carrazzo or McGrath will have to take up the slack. Carrazzo keeps on surprising me so I'm not going to say he can't do it. McGrath seems to be more of a defensive option, but again his recent form has been excellent, and he has the skills to capitalise on any possessions he wins in the packs or around the ground.

Probably a good thing if Carrazzo is in the centre. I don't think he would be the ideal match up for Sampi when the ball is in the air, whereas Wiggler can compete there (though perhaps not at the altitude that Sampi will reach, which makes it imperative he is shoulder-to-shoulder with him to prevent him launching into the stratosphere). It is good luck for us that Matera is out, so that we won't be stretched by their small forwards.

On checking, Chad Fletcher was in the All-Australian Team last year. He was named on the interchange bench, though, but there is little shame in this as Riccuito and West were starting in the ruck.
