How times have changed!

But hey, a 10 year anniversary is as good a reason to sit back and remember the good times for a while! How did you spend the day?

I got to the ground at about 6am (a mate had been queuing up at the AFL members gate from about 2!) ready for the massive bolt for seats at 8. We ended up prime position - level 2 (undercover) on the wing. The next 6 1/2 hours were possibly the longest 6 1/2 hours of the season... waiting.... waiting.... waiting. Finally the teams came out on the ground - I think I was probably about as nervous as they were! The actual game is all a bit of a blur... I remember Bradley kicking the first goal, I remember Hocking going the man in the first quarter, I remember the magnificent Spalding goal in the second quarter where we just pushed and pushed, I remember Kouta cutting them to pieces in the first half, I remember that weak as piss Stoneham reaching over the fence at 1/2 time to try and punch Ang, I remember Diesel celebrating after kicking what was probably the sealer (I was worried they were going to come back) late in the 3rd, I remember the great goal that Whitehead kicked on the run in the last... maybe it's not such a blur... it's sending shivers down my spine as I'm thinking about it!

I remember the siren going and almost feeling like crying. Some supporters never get to see their side in a Grand Final - but I was lucky enough to witness the culmination of one of the greatest, most dominant seasons of all time. The medal presentation was awesome... SOS's scream, and Deano's jump! The walk back to the station was possibly the happiest I've ever felt. Walking into the house my Dad (who had tickets in the Ponsford stand with my Mum and sister - both Geelong supporters), took me by complete surprise and greeted me with a massive hug! After a quick change, it was back on the train and off to Princes Park to celebrate.

The tram ride down Elizabeth street is also something I'll never forget - from the minute we left, the entire tram was singing the theme song. And every time the song finished, someone else would start up the "Da deda dedarrr". It was brilliant. We got off the tram, and someone mistook me for Brad Pearce... I started to think that this could be an even better night if I can pass as a player! We got into the Social club, met the players, went out on the ground, went back in the social club, it was awesome.

We finished the night at our favourite night club at the time, Collision, jumping up and down to some great tunes, then finishing the night with one last rendition of "We are the Navy Blues".

One of the best days ever!

Can't wait till all the shit has passed and we get to do it all again...

I was on a plane from Europe to Melbourne. Got the progressive scores on the PA on the leg from Bangkok to Melbourne. Landed in the evening in Melbourne tired and jetlagged after 30 hours travel - got picked up by Ms. Mikkey - fully dressed in Carlton gear who came straight from the "G" and drove me directy to OO for the celebrations. Last thing I remember was I fell asleep standing at the Bar in the SC. Still bitter and twisted I missed that GF... at the time I thought I would see a GF win soon anyway... yeah...

Great day............. breakfast/lunch in a tent..........then walked over the bridge and into our seats with 2 minutes to spare.......started singing the song 10 minutes into the last 1/4.........got kicked out of a taxi on the way to Princes Park....... sang the song again..........! and again.........! then fell over.........! kindest regards tommi

I was born in 1957!!!!!!! so this has happened to me before!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But then there were no computers, no TC's no...No..... I just played cricket over summer and waited for the coming of Barass I'd read Nostradamus at 2 and in third quatrain he mentions Barass (or was that the bible and Barabas?) but the point is/was (oh this time thingy gets me) it was so much easier then! ignorance is bliss. a crap year in 1959 was easier than a crap year in 2005 let me tell you GW - and not just cos i was only 2 either! Its got more to do with...well this The Golden Square versus the stupid draft! Oh where's Wes Lofts when you need him!

1st wedding anniversary. Was living in Bris at the time and took the wife to some secluded resort at Mooloolabah for a romantic getaway............or so she thought!! Spent the entire day in the bar at the resort watching the game live on the box wearing my (secretly hidden in the case) guernesy. At one stage after a considerable number of beers, in about the third quarter, some Geelong peanut down the front wouldnt shut up so I threw something at him. It was nearly on for young and old and I was nearly chucked out with a quarter to go. My Mrs was mortified and it certainly wasnt her idea of a quiet romantic getaway. In the end we won, I got pissed, I managed to bean some useless Geelong bloke that wouldnt shut up..............................and I have been hearing about it ever since. With the possible exception of the incessant nagging about it that has followed ever since, possibly the next best thing to being there. My brother went to the game and I remember buying the 'souvenir' magazine thinngo that came out a week or so later. I remember looking at the ads for souvenir merchandise etc and laughing at the mini pewter premiership cup that you could buy for $200 or something. I remember laughing with a mate and saying who would be stupid enough to spend $200 on that!!! A couple of weeks later I was back in melb and walked into my brother's flat. 1st thing my eyes caught was the pewter premiership cup on the mantle piece!!!!

I watched the game from a friends place in Carlton, just around the corner from Optus Oval. There were about 10 of us and as soon as the presentations were over we heading down to Optus Oval to start celebrating. We stayed at the ground all night - didn't actually leave there until around 5.00 on the Sunday night. I still remember it like it was yesterday so to actually be reminded that it was 10 years ago is quite freaky!!

It was the week before my wedding. I remember watching it with my soon to be brother-in-law (blues fan also) & drinking far too much, particularly afterwards. I often wonder why my wedding coincided with the blues decline. Is it because the forces feel that my marriage is filled with so much joy that I don't require anymore? Hmmm. Then again, maybe I could test this theory by getting rid of the wife in the hope for an amazing blues comeback to power.

Watched the game at a mate's place in Preston. We played a little drinking game where I had to skull a glass of beer after each Geelong goal and he had to skull after each Carlton goal. Needless to say the lad was a mess before half time. Did not celebrate big that night, was relieved more than anything with the win even though it was expected.

Got to the AFL members early with my father (who was witnessing his tenth Blues flag) and really enjoyed it. A relief to have that grand final tension over and done with by half time. Only disappointment was that the Blues started celebrating half way through the last quarter - would have loved a record win to go with the record season. Like DB I lived through the last 'drought' and was 12 when we broke through in 1968. Been at the G for 8 flags and 5 grim losses. Might have to live till I'm 100 to see another one.

10 years ago I was back at Princes Park after the grand final - we walked all the way from the MCG - stopped by the Herald Sun building to pick up a Weg poster - and it was a great, great walk through the city and up along Royal Parade. The song was sung a hundred times and we were going to live forever. A great day. The next morning, a bit hungover but read every word in every sports section all day long. Then watched the replay twice, then got my hands on a copy with the ABC radio commentary instead of Sandy 'Worst Commentator Ever' Roberts. Great, great times. AND FOR CHRIST'S SAKE DOES EVERY THREAD HAVE TO BE HIJACKED BY THE SAME OLD ARGUMENT? GIVE IT A REST.
